REMOVE A PERSON FROM MY ADDRESS

Complicated but I'll be brief
I moved away for 4 years, still kept my house, and a relative came and lived in there to look after things.
Hes not the most credit worthy person, borrowed money from agencies never paid back he just moved on.
When i came back i noticed a LOT of 'official' looking envelopes addressed to him (no I didn't open, i just forwarded onto his address)

Anyways, i applied for the new ZOPA credit card and got turned down (when i left the UK i had a great credit score) now after applying to 2 more card suppliers again i got turned down, (I used the ones advertised where it doesn't affect my credit score)
Do expirean etc use the house address and or the people living in it?
If so how can i remove the relative that has used my address for their own uses ??

As you've lived outside the UK for 4 years, there's next to no credit history.
Are you on the electoral roll yet?
Did you keep any UK bank accounts open while away?
Credit reference agencies information is about people, there's no CRA for addresses.
Also, your score is neither here nor there, America uses credit scores, the UK doesn't. Lenders see and use the credit history of the person applying, plus the data on the application form and other information.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
As I understand it your credit record is your credit record and completely separate from your relative's despite sharing an address. The only way there should be confusion is if you have very similar names. i.e. 5 out of 6 of us in my family have the same first initial so lots of companies have mixed us up. There used to be a service on Experian that would link people at an address when you were tracing someone but that was a different part of their services.
You might have more success (guessing!) if you apply for a card associated to a bank you've been with a long time as they would have a better understanding of your credit then some new company that doesn't know you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. As above, your credit record is specific to you, not to your address.
You can become “linked” to another person, for example by having a joint account, but not by having the same address.1 -
Check all 3 of your credit records, it's not impossible your dodgy relative has applied for credit in your name. The lack of credit use in the last 4 years will always count against you (assuming you didn't keep any sort of credit going) so get on the ER, apply for a basic/credit builder card (or ask your bank where your earnings go) and start using it, pay off in full every month, SIM only mobile contract, the usual jazz. Just keep it going for a while.Ignore your credit "score" which doesn't exist, don't apply for any credit for 6 months though1

Credit files are linked to people not addresses, so there's nothing to worry about from that perspective. Your relative won't have any affect on your own creditworthiness - unless they've been naughty and taken out credit in your name, but that's a whole other kettle of fish.
It'd be a good idea to check your credit reports from all 3 CRAs - odds are your absence from the UK has led to a thin credit file, which has made lenders more hesitant to lend to you. With multiple recent rejections I'd hold off and not think about making any more applications for 6 months or so.1
