It’ll be a no spends day today. We are going to hang out at home, take bikes out etc. It’s going to be totally roasting here today, I think, so need to take it easy. I need to try to work on one of my assignments if I get some chance later today.

We had a really good time, hung out for about four hours, really deep chat instigated by him. I don’t think we will ‘date’ though - I get a sort of avoidant vibe from him although he’s very gentlemanly in lots of ways, and was much more open than when we’ve seen each other before. Lots of compliments but there’s a lot of fear there too. Slightly mixed messages - wants to hang out, refused to accept money for supper (I always struggle with this), but gives off more of a lone wolf impression than when we spent time together before. I would’ve really overthought this stuff before, but I don’t want to 😂 We talked about hanging out again which is fine, but on reflection since last night I’ll probably have to keep it pretty limited or it’ll be confusing and not great for self esteem. Been there, not up for it again. I’m on a really even keel and finely balancing everything so anything that I got into would have to be quite slow, but to be honest I think we are not quite in the same headspace. He’s otherwise lovely but on reflection I think it’s just not the right path - at least, not at the moment.
  • When I made the conscious decision a few years ago to pay off our debt I opened an account into which I put 1/12 of the costs of insurance, car insurance etc, so having estimated what the payment I needed to put away each month by the time the bills came in, I had the cash to pay them. I also opened a separate account with another bank and transferred into it each month the cash left after all bills etc had be paid. That was our emergency fund. In march it became obvious that my 13 year old car was going to need some serious work, so I sold it and bought a 3 year old Corsa which had been used as a courtesy car and paid cash for it. The emergency account is now filling up nicely again.

There are also accounts for mine and my husbands pocket money, I draw so much in cash and the rest is savings to spend on what ever we want to buy.

    It worked for us.

Thanks @csarina - I am quite fortunate as the majority of my bills come out at the beginning of the month, and I’m paid on the last working day of each month. I pay into savings pots at the start of each month. I tend to then have a weekly budget from there as I’m focusing on building an EF and holiday/Xmas pots! I’m also the only adult in the house so I don’t need to worry about anyone else’s spending. I feel extraordinary guilt buying anything for myself so I’m not too worried on that front, ha! My car is pretty economical really. Thank you very much - sounds like what you’re doing is working really well for you!

Seems like the date went well, the joys of it, eh. It seems, like your financial decisions, you know what to do and where it goes and you seem to be in the right mind space for it. And like yourself, I, too, suffer from having to just let them pay for everything. I always want to pay my half but then have to swallow my pride a little when they don't accept, lol.

Good luck on the money saving and dating!

Thanks @anjyeah, that’s a really lovely thing to say! Back at you ☺️ I can totally identify with the pride thing, ha! When you get to know someone it’s different, but I just feel really awkward about it when I don’t know someone well...

Today was going to be a no spends day, but I had a bit of a shock when I logged onto my online account earlier. I’ve been using Duolingo to learn a new language and I’d had a free trial of the pro version. It intimated that I’d be warned prior to it ending and also that any subscription would be monthly as it stated a monthly cost - £59.99 out of my account this morning! I’ve cancelled the subscription. Spoke with the support team and they said that it should be okay to action a refund via Apple, so I just have to wait for the payment to clear from my bank before I can raise it with them. Other than that I haven’t spent anything!

My Fat Face order arrived today and the dress that I ordered is too big, so I’ll be sending that back tomorrow too, if I get chance in my work day.

Kids are now in bed, so I’m planning a quiet evening in with an assignment for one of my post grad modules...
