    Good evening everyone,

I was hoping to ask for some advice if possible and wondered if anyone could share any experience or clarity on some questions in relation to Paternity Pay & Shared Parental Leave.

we are expecting a baby on 02/12/2021 and I am currently employed on a FTC which is due to end on 30/12/2021. it is still possible it will be extended however at this stage this is unknown.

as far as I am aware at present it would be too late to change employers and still qualify for paternity leave / shared parental leave & pay.

in addition my partner is a teacher and will be taking 9 months leave but as the last weeks will be during summer holidays her plan is to return in July, to officially return in September for the new year. by doing this she will be able to share 6 weeks leave / pay with me.

if I were to do this from the birth I would have 2 weeks paternity leave + 6 weeks shared leave which will allow me to have 2 months off with some income.

can I ask if anyone has knowledge around the impact of my fixed contract ending during week 4?

will I still be able to continue my leave and receive the SPP until the end of week 8?

if anyone has experienced this and has any recommendations and ideas I would love to hear from you

    thanks for your advice

Government guidelines would suggest that this is not possible if your contract ends at it's current date as you would need to stay with the same employer whilst on SPL. https://www.gov.uk/shared-parental-leave-and-pay/eligibility-for-birth-parents

    Thanks 68comebackspecial

That makes sense, so as I understand it.

i can take 2 weeks pat leave and then 2 weeks SPL and then once my contract ends I will have no further entitlement.

however should my contract be extended I will continue to be entitled to leave.

am I also correct in understanding on my contract as there are 4 people carrying out the same role with the same end date. My employer would be unable to end my contract and continue the contracts for other team members due to the fact I am taking leave l?

    thanks
