Stubborn Yucca

Hi,
We have recently moved into our house and right next to the front door was a big yucca. We really didn’t like it plus we were a little worried about the roots being so close to the house.
We have recently moved into our house and right next to the front door was a big yucca. We really didn’t like it plus we were a little worried about the roots being so close to the house.
We cut it right back and attempted to dig it out. Unfortunately it’s been cemented in so we couldn’t dig around to get out all of the roots. We’ve dig out the yucca but there’s still a fair few roots left in the ground that we can’t get to due to the cement. We were thinking to fill the hole with cement. Would the roots die in the cement or look for a way out causing us problems down the line? We don’t really want to go down the herbicide route but would welcome any advice please! Pictures attached for reference.
Thanks In advance.

You have taken the crown out, so it is highly unlikely that you'll have anything sprouting from the remaining roots.Personally, I'd break up the rest of the concrete in that small area and put down some decorative gravel in its place. This will allow rain water to drain away and make life easier should you ever decide to plant up a flower bed in that spot.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.2 -
I'm an experienced gardener and that plant isn't ever going to regenerate!Yuccas are foul things armed with spines at child eye level, so you did the right thing getting rid of it.3

That to me does not look like a yucca, it looks like pampas grass. And I agree, it is hateful.

I took the OP at their word, so only glanced at the picture. Now I've expanded it in a new window, I see you're both wrong: it's a phormium!Rosa_Damascena said:That to me does not look like a yucca, it looks like pampas grass. And I agree, it is hateful.
Not as nasty as a yucca, but still out of place where it was.
