  • I’ve also spoke to the courts and they said I can pay it and get it satisfied just so I can try secure a mortgage and then appeal it afterwards.

What do people suggest I should do? I’m desperate for my first home lol

How am I supposed to provide a bill from 6 years ago??

You'd usually find something in your emails, online facilities, or failing that, get in touch with one of your providers from the time.

I’ve always lived with my mum though so have no bills in my name under her address

The council tax records / electoral register for example from when you were 18 or so would be proof you lived with her, but have you honestly never had any bills like a mobile phone, credit card, bank account etc from when you were 18 onwards?

How am I supposed to provide a bill from 6 years ago?? Surely it’s down to them to prove that it was me not the other way round??

    Thanks everyone for replies

Once legal action has been taken, and judgement granted in the creditors favour, that removes the responsibility the creditor had to provide any further proof of liability whatsoever, as the court has decided, rightly or wrongly, that this debt is yours.

So you are now relying on the goodwill of your Lowell representative to try and sort this out for you, to do that, they will require some kind of evidential proof to back up your claims, otherwise its just your word against theirs, and you will not be successful.

Your best bet is a copy of a driving licence, car/bike insurance certificate, any other bill in your name from the time period, bank statement, you must be able to get a hold of one surely ?

Maybe it's my age (I'm assuming I'm much older than you) but I have numerous bits of correspondence going back 20 or even 30 years.  Pension statements etc.  If you think what you were doing 10 years back there must be some record available.  At uni?  Working for X?  You were with the same bank??  Maybe they would accept a statement from your mom or your doctor?

I agree it should be their responsibility to ensure they have the right person but if you want to get this resolved asap then helping them as much as possible is in your best interest.

I’m 26 so everything I have is online. I’ve phoned EE and they’re going to send it out but can take up to 30 days. After 6 years they delete files for data protection

Contacted Lowell and they said the EE bill isn’t sufficient and has to be one of the bills they listed in the email which I don’t have as I was living with mum and no bills were in my name.
