Hi All,
Just to make you all aware, in March 2021 my wife and I ordered a patio dining set (£999) from The Range. Last Friday 4th June, I received an email saying it would be delivered 30th June, much to our relief as we've waited so long. However, this morning 11th June, I have received an email to say that 'Confirmation of you returns' and that we must visit the store to get a refund. Neither my wife or I cancelled the order so we called to query the email we'd received.
I was told by cutomer services the courier had cancelled the order, when I asked for a replacement to be arrange she said i have to re order the item, and suprise suprise they have increased the price to £1249.99.
£249 more than we paid. This is a complete scam by The Range, they've held our £999 for the last 4 months, I imagine along with many other customers, most likely making hundredsof pounds in interest. We firmly belive they have cancelled the order simply so we have to reorder at the new price point. The customer services girl 'TJ' should be fired for the way she spoke to me on the phone, shouting over me, I had to tell her to calm down as I was simply trying to find a solution that would result in either us getting the dining set a agreed, or reordering at the existing price, and not having to wait ANOTHER 4 months. She couldnt help with a single request and simply bellowed down the phone to me that I have to reorder at the new price and join the que as the item is 'preorder' only. My suggestion is that everyone stays way clear of preorders from The Range as they are a scam!! The Range Scam!

The Range Scam! You certainly like the word scam!I doubt it's to gain the interest, they would have made around 30p, if that had it gone into a interest bearing account.Maybe best for the Praise, Vent & Warn section of the forum, unless you have a question.

The Range Scam! How could a courier cancel an order between a store and a customer?Do you mean the courier tried to deliver the patio set and couldn't for some reason (e.g. you weren't in) and so it was returned to The Range?Perhaps 'TJ' felt that you were being unreasonable on the phone.I can understand why she 'couldn't help with a single request' if the system wouldn't allow her to magic up another patio set at a price less than listed. If that wasn't a solution available to her, then she couldn't do it.2

Unreasonable probably if anything like the OP.Fraudulent , Scam etc1

Sounds like usual poor customer service from the range rather than a scam, they are well known for poor customer service, my wife used to work there and that was one of the main reasons she left along with their complete disregard for employment laws2

Perhaps the range mean their courier has cancelled as they can not get the goods. As has been widely reports goods such as the OP are in very short supply. In many ways due to a boat getting stuck in the Suez canal as well as something called Covid 19.
OP take the money and say thank you range from saving me from the rubbish they sell.Life in the slow lane1 -

It's not ideal, but I can well understand The Range not being in a position to supply at the previous price if their costs have increased significantly.0 -

If your costs are uncertain, don't sell on a pre-order basis. Only actual take money when you know what the goods will cost you for sure.0 -
I didn't know the Range sold anything that expensive.0

They've had the prices upped after they've ordered and they have no choice but to cancel the orders or ask for more money.
The solution to this problem is to stop doing business with China. You will always lose, eventually.0 -
Some companies like the range and Wilko don't actually stock the item themselves , they basically use a 3rd party to supply and deliver "direct from the manufacturer" ( or importer )
Looks like the 3rd party has failed to fulfill ( or gone bust)
I've had wardrobes from Wilko where all communication after the initial email were from the British manufacturer and was delivered in their lorry , not a Wilko one .
