Pip query

Options
Hi
Hope someone can offer advice. I have a visual impairment and seen my opthomologist recently, there’s been a slight change in my vision. However, I have a cataract and so visual acuity doesn’t accurately reflect the issues I have.
Even with the slight improvement in visual acuity, I still experience blurred vision, colour contrast issues, reduced depth perception, reduced night vision and can no longer read print at all- and use audiobooks.
I know if there’s a change in conditions you are to inform PIP. However, my argument is it won’t change the issues I experience or change my entitlement descriptors.
If anyone could advise - thanks

That will depend exactly what those changes are. As your conditions mean you won't score any less or more points to change the award you already have then there's nothing to report.
If people rang to report every single change then backlogs would be even longer than they already are.

Yes, I am on high PIP for both components. While, PIP are solely focused on visual acuity. With Cataracts it doesn’t remove the issues that I experience,; blurred vision, colour contrast, depth perception.

I worry that when it comes to review time. They will query why I didn’t tell them about my visual acuity change. I will argue that visual acuity doesn’t remove the issues I experience due to my cataract. Does that make sense?
The visual acuity change won’t change my entitlement I don’t think. I don’t know if they’ll see it like that though and that’s what I’m concerned about.

That isn't going to happen because as you said it doesn't change the way you're affected against the PIP descriptors.

    You're overthinking it.
When they ask you to report a change in condition, it's only in relation to a change in award.
I am registered blind and my vision is constantly getting worse but I don't report every change because it it would make no difference to the award I receive.

Just to add, you should push the cataract surgery because that can make an amazing difference to the quality of vision that you have remainin
I had mine removed in 2004 and it gave me another 3 or 4 years of useful Visio
After removal I could read again with strong magnification and I could tell colours apart for a while.

Just wondering if you have RP?

I have an underlying eye condition which means currently they are reluctant to remove it as it’s high risk for me.

Remember that PIP is not based on diagnosis, it is based on impact. If the changes are marginal and make no material difference to the difficulties you have there is no need to report them.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
