We have been renting in Scotland and our landlord now wants to sell. They have given us the notice via the letting agency of 6 months due to covid. It stated you must be out on or before ....
I've now contacted agency and asked what is process if I want to leave before the date on the letter and she said I need to give 2 months notice. Does this seem correct that I need to give notice to leave when i have been asked to leave? Thanks

Just leave, your LL wants you gone, I doubt he will take you to court for leaving early.

Shelter Scotland could give legal advice, but as a lay person I would argue that notice to leave on *or before* X date lets you leave before X date.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Ask the agent to ask the landlord if you can leave with short notice. If they're selling the property its likely to benefit them to have you leave earlier.

'phone Shelter Scotland 0808 800 4444 they'll tell you or check their website, full of useful stuff. It's all there.

Just because landlord serves notice to leave (I assume you have a PRT? ) does to end your tenancy nor compel you to leave.  Only the FTT can do that.

You can agree with Landlord to go when you like e.g. tomorrow at 13:45, but you both need to agree.

It's possible notice is invalid.  Ask Shelter, the experts.

Don't trust agent to be right.  Some have little skill, other than in misleading people.

Artful.  Landlord with Scottish property since 2000.

My son rents and at the start of his tenancy he was told, Covid apart, his landlord had to give him 3 months notice and my son had to give one month notice.
Agency is reputable and big in area.

What kind of tenancy do you have? Assured, Short Assured or the Private Rental Tenancy introduced 1st December 2017?
