Gmail issues

When I open a gmail attachment on my tablet, it seems to affect the same email that is on my gmail account on my pc. Sometimes it seems to delete the message ( although this may be me deleting it on my tablet!)
Please does anyone know if there is a setting where if I open the email on one device it doesn't change the other one?
Thanks

When you synchronise, anything you do is reflected on all attached devices. Turn off synchronisation on one device, but then you won't get new emails etc2

As an example .. I use Outlook (the app within Office) as my main email client on my PC. When I open it, it downloads emails in my Gmail Inbox to my PC. However, whilst those emails disappear from my Gmail Inbox they don't disappear from Gmail - they move to the All Mail folder. Is this what's actually happening for you?Jenni x0

As far as the OP is concerned, you should check whether you're using IMAP on the tablet (and pc). And openning an email on one computer will not affect the other. BUT if you delete one, it will also delete on the other. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
I'm using IMAP ... and what I've described is the default action as far as I am aware. I think downloading to an email client marks them as archived. So the emails don't disappear from Gmail, they just move to a different folder within Gmail. It's always been this way for me.Jenni x2

Yes, Gmail and it's "interesting" labelling/filters. Not sure about Archive-when-read being the default but it would explain the OPs functionality. It doesn't work like that for me.
Another possibility is that the OP has messages ordered on unread first with read emails appearing after. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
I use Gmail via IMAP on several devices, and downloading emails to one of the devices does not mark them as archived, it just marks them as read once I read them. I have to manually archive them via the client (I use Spark on all devices) for that to happen, except where I have set up a filter to archive them once received within Gmail but then that happens before I even see them. So I'm a little puzzled by some of the behaviours mentioned here.
Ultimately, if you use IMAP (which surely most people do nowadays) then anything you do via the client should be reflected on the server and subsequently on other connected devices.Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. I'd imagine that Google is similar, but it may be worth looking at forwarding via another service if Google doesn't do this (it should, but that doesn't mean it does). I don't like Google's way of moving things into folders in any event.💙💛 💔0 -
For the avoidance of doubt - I have no issues whatsoever with how Gmail handles things. I'm well aware of what to expect when I use it.
I was ONLY giving a scenario that might explain the OP's issues. (Remember ... I am not the OP here).Jenni x2
