ADVICE - Do any energy suppliers still provide standard top up / Pay As You Go meters??
Hi All
I have recently purchased a property and it is on quarterly billing, it is with SSE (gas and elec), i rang them and stated i would like to have standard top up meter/pay as you go type (card for gas meter/key for elec), they stated all is fine and had a fitting dare for the 21st.
I have just received a letter today stating they are fitting a SMART meter! I could NOT stress how much i did NOT want one when i booked the fitting!
After speaking to them they stated they now only fit smart meters....
Are there any suppliers out there that still fit normal pay as you go meters as they suit my needs much better than 'smart meters'.
Thanks

I believe unless there is a good practical reason all new meter installs/swap are Smart.Wanted a smart meter for my late grandmother's flat but utility company of the time took one look at the installation and said what the deuce, we're not touching that. So it was left as a credit meter on both accounts.0

Surely for a pre pay meter a smart one is far more advantageous as it gives so many more options in how to pay and put leccy on it rather than just with a key.0

Smart meters can still be used for pre payment accounts.1
