Playstation 5 internet issue?

My son has a playstation 5 and everything has been perfectly fine with it. We had more plug sockets put into his room and the electrician broke the HDMI lead. I checked on the WHICH website and it said all HDMI leads are basically the same as the playstation 5 one was a gold tipped HDMI lead. So I bought a normal HDMI lead. My son has had imternet issues since and is continuously getting kicked out of games due to internet issues. I dont even think the HDMI lead connects to the internet but I bought a gold tipped one and still theres an issue. Can anyone shed any light as to what might be causing the issue as all the other electrical equipment connected to the router seems to be working fine.

Thank you for any advice given

If its a cheap HDMI cable it may be generating interference which if the console is wireless can interfere.
You'd do better if you're able to to run a network cable from console to router.

The gold hdmi lead i bought was £11, is that cheap, I dont really know tbh, days of me being tech savvy are well and truly gone!!! The cable from console to router isnt an option as far as I can think as the router is in the living room and thats where the only phone point is and his room is upstairs.

Might want to read this about HDMI cables:

I meant cheap as in poor quality cheap, not cheap as in from the poundshop.  Maybe "cheap" was the wrong word, I should have said poorer quality, as in badly shielded and badly made.  A cheap cable can work fine for picture quality on its own, though some of the more durable ones may justify a higher price tag.

Re: the networking - plenty of ways to get a cable connection downstairs - Homeplug for example.

Homeplug, i've just looked into it, am i right in assuming you need an ethernet cable to go from the router to downstairs plug and another ethernet cable to go from upstaits plug socket to the playstation?

Also, can you recommend a quality hdmi cable or would you recommend the homeplug.

    Thank you for your help

If you have invested £500 in a Playstation 5 then connecting it up via Ethernet for the sake of a £10 ethernet cable is well worth it, all dedicated gamers swear by using ethernet for the fastest ping times and best gaming experience. Doesn't take much effort to run one from the ground floor to a bedroom either.

As for HDMI interference, I'm not 100% sure but I'm intrigued as to how the HDMI cable got broken - was it plugged into either the TV or Playstation and therefore has caused some damage to the HDMI ports? It could be that a port is damaged or the shield around it somehow is disconnected / damaged. Maybe a ground pin in the ports has been damaged for example.

As long as the cable meets the HDMI 2.1 specification (as per original PS5 cable) then it should be ok, they contain shielding within them and shouldn't receive nor transmit significant interference. Don't be led solely by the gold connectors as a sign of quality though.

Can you try swapping the PS5 between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wifi to see if it makes any difference?

I think I will go down the homeplug route, a lot of people recommend it from what i am seeing and you two seem to know what your talking about. Im trying to rack my brains as to how it got broken, im sure the electrician stepped on the original cable. At least the ethernet cable wont have to go in there so if the HDMI port is broken it wont be needed ..... will it?

Well without a HDMI cable you won't see anything...
