Always amazes me how people get the wrong site for passport/Driving Licence renewal

Will await facts from the Cab rather than individual opinions. Thanks anyway.
A bit pointless coming on here if you are going to dismiss out of hand the advice that you didn't want to hear.

Perhaps you should instruct your solicitor, and try the courts.  Personally I would just learn from it.

Its not hard to work out the genuine one vs bogus.....price will be vastly inflated and on google it will show as AD

Wow! Thought this was supposed to be a helpful and friendly site?! I appreciated the earlier comments and advice, but some have to always go that little bit further?! One lesson learnt, not to do this again for sure!
Thanks to all the genuine ones that gave me the intital, constructive advice.

Some are not always as savvy, hence why we come on here for advice not criticism. I totally hold my hands up that I made a mistake, but was reaching out to see if anyone had had any positive results from making this mistake and had had any other outcomes?

These threads come up regularly - there have been several in the last few weeks alone.
Why so many, so suddenly? No idea. But the basic thread is always the same.

    It's very simple.
LOOK AT A SITE BEFORE YOU GIVE IT PERSONAL DETAILS AND ESPECIALLY MONEY.
Don't rely on a google result if you don't know the difference between an actual search result and an ad.

These sites are not shy about stating the reality, that they are a commercial service on top of the DVLA application. They offer additional services. Whether those services are worth the money is another question entirely - but they are clear about them. They have been there for years, and are not just DVLA-related. Most similar government services have had them for years, too.

Thank you for that advice, and point taken.
I think why there seems to be quite a few of these posts at the moment are the actual DVLA site had gone down at the time, and like I did, people just presumed that the top search is the one to go with?! Also, as its 10years after renewing, I wouldn't necessarily remember what the "correct" sites look like, but that's my naivity. I just got caught in the rat race of it all, and just need to accept it
    Thanks again

No, I'm talking about over a few weeks. The DVLA website outage was very short-term.
and like I did, people just presumed that the top search is the one to go with?!
Precisely my point about knowing what's an ad and what's an actual search result. They are clearly labelled as ads.
Don't search if you know the URL - and if you've had a reminder that will have the correct URL on it.
If you're using a computer, install an adblocker on your browser.
If you're using a phone or tablet, use a computer instead if you can - life's just so much easier.
    Basic online skills...
Also, as its 10years after renewing, I wouldn't necessarily remember what the "correct" sites look like
There's only one thing you need to know...
    All government sites are gov.uk

But well done on not pulling out the usual line of "It looked just like the real one" where it's blatantly obvious it didn't.
but that's my naivity. I just got caught in the rat race of it all, and just need to accept it
That about sums it up. There are more expensive ways to learn that life-lesson.
