Moving energy supplier address before tenancy end

Hello! My current tenancy ends on July 17th and I have already signed the contract for a new tenancy at a new address. I would like to move in there a bit earlier than the 17th though, on the 10th, and would like to move my supplier there as early as possible. But I don't know what happens with costs in that week my flat will be empty, will the supplier of the "old" flat be reverted to default and will I have to pay for the standing charge since it's officially still during my tenancy? Should I better move my supplier on the 18th and pay those few extra days at the new property?
Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

You'll have to have an account at each address.

Current address: Close account the day your tenancy ends (and give the meter readings from the last day).
New address: Open an account with the existing supplier at the property the day your new tenancy starts. Only after that account is set up can you switch to your chosen supplier.
  • When you move you need to stay with the current supplier of the property for 3 weeks before a change can be implemented. Your account at your old address will close when you move out.
  • Generally for energy accounts you can’t bring these with you. You need to tell your supplier the date your tenancy ends and they’ll ask for a closing meter reading on this date and close the account, a few weeks later you’ll get the final bill and either be refunded credit on the account or the final payment will be taken.

You need to contact the current energy suppliers for the new property on the day your tenancy starts as this is when you become liable to pay for it. Once you have registered with them and provided opening meter readings then you can switch to a supplier of your choosing.

Its a good idea to take photos of the meters on the last day of your tenancy at the current place and the first day at the new place.
