Electric Smart Meter says "Withdrawal"
I switched to Avro Energy from British Gas. As Avro cannot take smart meter readings, they have asked me to provide my readings to them. However, my electricity meter says "Withdrawal" and none of the buttons do anything. How do I read my smart meter?
The fact Avro cannot read smart meters makes a mockery of the whole smart meter programme.

Can you give us the make and model of the smart meter please? ... or even a photo...

Looks like the BG tariff has been withdrawn by switching to AVRO.Babycakes said:I switched to Avro Energy from British Gas. Do you still have the inhouse display unit?
Are you able to get actual readings from that?

The In House Display probably won't work now you're no longer with British Gas, but the readings should still be available and show on the actual Meter next to the fuse boxes. You might have to cycle through some button pressing to make the readings you're after show on the display.

Perhaps? But it appears the op is talking about the smart meter?Grizzlebeard said:The In House Display probably won't work now you're no longer with British Gas, but the readings should still be available and show on the actual Meter next to the fuse boxes. Its also possible the op is talking about the IHD though as the british gas ones do tend to stop working after switching, and they may have been using that to take their readings.Hasbeen said:

I read all the time about smart meters becoming dumb on supplier transfer, but never of them stopping being meters. Hence my suggestion the OP may be just one of many thousands of consumers who confuse the IHD information with the actual metering system mounted 'under the stairs'.

There have been some forumites who have complained that the dumb meter on the wall shows no reading despite all the buttons being pushed correctly, but IIRC none bothered to come back with the outcome. The meters are probably still working and would need the info to be retrieved via the optical port, but good luck explaining that to an overseas call centre drone following their script.Grizzlebeard said:

Absolutely agree. When people say "smart meter" these days its impossible to know if they mean the actual meter or the IHD as peoples understanding of the whole system is so variable.Grizzlebeard said:Thanks.
