Money saved on just one debit card... options to put in savings account/have it in more than 1 place

Hi,
Needing a bit of advice, I have saved 10,000 and it is sitting in a normal debit account. I have been advised that its good to have it in more than once place so I was wondering whether to open another debit account or open a savings account? I would be putting the bulk of the money in and using the debit card just for rent/bills etc as I wont be spending it any time soon. Looking at the credit union as an option? or or notice savings account (just in case).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are two separate issues at play here - it's generally recommended to have funds accessible in accounts with more than one banking group, to protect against technical outages, account freezes, etc, but it's also advisable to put your money where it'll work for you in terms of earning interest. It's possible that one extra account may serve both purposes, but conversely you might find that a second current account and a decent savings one are optimal - it'll all depend on when you're likely to need the money but a good place to start would be:
