Valuation survey by countrywide

Options
We have chosen not to have a full survey on the property we are purchasing as it is only 8 years old. Our house is 37 years old and our buyer has gone for the same.
I wondered, out of curiousity what a valuation survey actually entails? From what I remember when we bought they simply measure the rooms, quick snoop and check for any visible/obvious issues?
It doesn’t matter what they do but I like to be nosy!

Not sure they'd even measure the rooms, just get a vague idea of the overall size of the house and check it's not falling down. These days they often don't even come in (though if they've made an appointment with you then presumably they are).

When it buyer had one on our house they counted rooms, took photos of the kitchen and bathrooms, and took very rough measurements using a laser measure.

We’ve had a valuer from Countrywide round this morning, he was here ten minutes and just had a look around the house and garden. I don’t think he took measurements (but I just left him to it so can’t be sure).
  • Thanks everyone :)

Very little has sold on this estate as it’s popular and people tend to settle so given the last one on my Close sold 2 years ago I think they are looking more for that.
The property we are buying has the same survey on the same day and is unusual because they’re all different so the value probably needs to be checked - perhaps they’ve decided to see both if needing to see one!

Please don't put the word survey anywhere near a lender's mortgage report and valuation. It clouds the issue and the two should therefore never be linked.

    Ok thanks for that!!

Are they likely to go in the loft? I don’t have ladders as we borrow from a friend if/when we need them.

They're not, and even if they did, they'll generally have those telescopic ones if need be.
  • Oh wonderful! I did a wonder if I should get my friends but I shan’t bother!

I’m a natural worrier so over think it - after we’ve moved I’ll be staying firmly put 😂

If your a worrier, get a full survey, if you don't, you may or may not find thing issues later, is it a risk your willing to take? Don't rely on a valuation to try and save you a few hundred for what is likely your most expensive purchase

Sorry no you’ve misunderstood, my worry is because it’s my home valuation being done and even though I know of no issues, I will worry until it’s done 😬
