Lowell

Hi all.
Wife has been on checkmyfile.com as she is looking at leasing a car and noticed a supposed defaulted account with Lowell. Transunion are saying this was partially settled in Nov 2017 and the balance is now £0! We have absolute zero idea about what this is, she has never taken out loans, missed payments on credit cards etc, and this is £1800 so not something we would have been likely to miss or forget!! Where on earth has it come from? They are saying to check the account we need an account reference..again, absolutely no idea what this may be! Has anybody had a similar situation with Lowell?

thanks

  • If you're certain it's not her debt (not  parking ticket, old phone contract etc) then chances are they have associated the debt with her name based on someone with the same name, debt agencies don't bother doing thorough checks if they can avoid it.

Dispute the debt with Lowells via a formal complaint and then complain to the CRA that the debt is not hers and should not be on the account. You may need to send a DSAR (request for all data held on her) to the debt agency to get the account reference. If there was no previous debt reference on the account though (e.g. a defaulted bill that was then marked as closed and opened under the debt collector's name) then that is a strong case the debt isn't hers and Lowells have made a mistake.

Lowell did this to me too - They we’re on a fishing expedition, chasing someone with my name in another part of the country and for a debt to a company so awful I would never deal with in any way.

Took a good couple of years to stop them-off and they and the supposed originator of the debt proved utterly incompetent, evasive and quite illegal in the way they dealt with me.

Eventually I involved Action Fraud and that produced a letter saying they would be taking no further action against me - no explanation, no apology, nothing.
