X COMPANY CAR DRIVER

Is there any insurance co that would take into account my 15 years plus driving, albeit on a fleet policy.  Now looking to have my own private car and will need insurance.?

It's entirely possible some may give you an introductory discount that takes it into account, given something in writing from your previous co.car administrator(s).

You'd really need to be talking to insurers directly, though, rather than expecting the meerkats to do so automagically.

Direct Line did for me 2 years ago. Having said that, it doesn't seem to make a huge difference these days.  Your age, location and vehicle are much more important.

Will your (ex?) employer not give you a statement of driving/insurance history whilst you were a company car driver? Some insurers will take this into account.

When I opted out, the company's insurer (not my employer) gave me a letter saying I'd driven XX years without any claims.
I can't specifically remember who I went with for my first personal policy, but I remember I wasn't restricted to one, there were many who were willing to take the letter.
  • I tried this when I moved over from a company vehicle but couldn't find anyone that would accept my history as it was fleet rather than named driver. So i just hunted round for a good price, seven more so than i would usually. Probbably didnt make much difference overall in price for my current vehicle.
  • Yes company fleet policy.   Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I am fairly sure at least one of the aggregators allows you to state the NCD is from a company car. Certainly the Direct Line stable of brands all used to give credit but there are probably others out there.

Obviously make sure your employer is willing to give you a letter confirming how many years claims free driving you have with them before committing to buy.

Our fleet was huge so no one was named. I had records to show I was the only driver but that made no difference. Oh well, didn't take long for the price to drop with shopping around, price matching andd so no claims bonus getting built up.

Youngest so has returned to the UK having been living in L A for the last 5 years. He bought  a car this week and whilst I do not have the figures it cost him less than I am paying with full NCD - Comparison sites are OK but sometimes a telephone call to a proper person works wonders.
