Keeps asking me to post in photo id, sounds like some people didn't need that.
I'm probably going to try another provider.
    I don’t get this

ive opened lots of bank accounts in recent years - not once have I ever been asked to post any ID or photo ID as part of the application

why do some people get asked and some don’t?

It's typically specific to the applicant rather than bank - with maybe one or two exceptions, the vast majority of institutions will attempt to verify the customer's ID electronically via the credit rating agencies, and it's only if that process encounters difficulties that they'll ask for supporting documentation (a more manual and resource-intensive method that they'll be as keen to avoid as the customer).

I tried to open an account with them on Thursday. Despite me living at my current address for 20 years and having the same bank account since 1992 I was asked to send proof of both by post. A bit annoying, but I think I got in at the 1% rate so worth the effort.

I had an unexpected phone call from Aldermore asking me about the things I was unhappy about and felt properly heard which I really valued.

I am now happy with the account and I must say thumbs up to Aldermore for their attitude.

Yup, Went with Charter bank with a lower rate of 0.9%. They accepted me straight away.

I sent some documents to Aldermore but they were all declined, wasted a good 10 days. I think some of these banks need to modernise and do their checks through email and photo as many other banks do. Would be quicker and also save them money. They are losing a lot of customers this way. There's no way I can get copy of my ID signed off by a doctor or accountant etc. Too much hassle and I don't know anyone.
