O/S Daily Wednesday 9 June 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Bright sunny start to the day. Yesterday's forecast rain never arrived. I got a line of washing dried yesterday - I have another load to peg out shortly.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and I'm enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was pork steaks, mash, veg and gravy. Tonight will be either fish, chips and beans or gammon, egg and chips - I think it's more likely to be the gammon.
Yesterday work was still horrendously busy so think today won't be much different although It's my half day at a the other office.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Cloudy this morning, expecting rain for most of the day. Washing on the pulley and the little greenhouse is open - hopefully I won't have to water it later.
Unbelievably busy day yesterday, didn't know if I was coming or going! The day flew by but I could have done without the stress at times. Anyway, got most things done and it should be a quieter day today (fingers crossed).
Hope the poorlies are feeling better.
Well done Gers, you're making great progress.
Must dash - another day at the madhouse beckons! Take care. XX11 -
Morning all! Beautiful sunny morning so far. I did the pottering yesterday, moved some stuff, increased the pot size of some other stuff, re-potted a couple of aloe vera babies that came off a massive monster of an aloe that was my mothers plant that sadly had to be put in the compost bin. They haven't been thriving and when I potted them on I found out why, the compost was just like lumps of wood, no real dirt in there. They should be happier with what they're in now. I've just been out and taken some rosemary for cuttings. I have three of them in the front garden, two with blue flowers, one with white. The white one was also my mothers, taken from a cutting from the one in her garden that she took from outside her family home in Italy. It has a more resinous aroma than the other two. I do like the continuity of plants. I like the idea that I could draw a line from Italy to here to various houses along the way where the same DNA resides in each.I've seen Running Man this morning. I deliberately went into the front garden to weed and heard his thumpy thump boots going past. Does this count as stalking when you're watching strangers? I made a paella inspired dish last night, plenty left for tonight. I have a zoom learning thing at half seven tonight and I have to make a list to go shopping to make OHs stepdad a cake, nothing fancy, just a cake cake, not a birthday cake but I don't have lemons or sugar left...otherwie I am free to lounge around and do nothing today. I feel slightly ashamed that next door were already up and had washed washing and it was on the line by six o clock..I told OH that this morning and he said old people are solar powered, they get up in the morning when the sun comes up and go to bed when it goes down...TA, put a picture of a pot and a kettle outside your door and see if they twig
Monna, you were obviously just saving your decluttering powers for this occasion...Ruby, we should plot these people on a map. I'm sure there are others and I'm sure they'd be horrified to find out we've been imagining them like we have
Nanny, slow down girl! Good to hear treatment has been organised for Mr Fixit. Wishing everyone a pleasantly cheerful day in the sun...

Morning folks and thanks NMLC> Another scorcher in store, I am getting used to these lovely days.
Yesterday afternoon found me sitting in the garden reading again and I had a surprise visit from DD and her friend. They had been walking on the moors and stopped off for an hour before it was time to set off on the school pick up run. It was a much needed ice cream for them both and of course I had to have one too! I'd had a tiring half hour earlier - it was work out time for the boy next door! After an energetic attack on the punch bag he then did the usual press ups, followed by a bout of shadow boxing. It wore me out watching!!
Not much planned for today but I have promised myself I will do my most hated job - cleaning the dw filter! I do try to keep up to it and am full of promise that I will do it weekly but it doesn't always happen! Then maybe a quick trundle round with the Vax before taking my seat in the garden, book in hand. The chicken from the w/e is now finished at last so I think it will be fish for tea, with some salad and hm wedges.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, poorly loved ones and those with worries and woes. I hope poor MR CSARINA is soon on the mend, that sounded quite nasty. DUMPLING now seems to have joined the ranks of the MIA, I hope there is nothing too amiss with her. Take care one and all xx.

Morning everyone
My jab knocked me for 6 yesterday! I came home and phoned work to say I wouldn't be in then went to bed! Woke several hours later, after the weirdest dreams and feeling really hungry, so I got up and had some tea and a potter about and then back to bed.
I've woken feeling tired after more weird dreams and a bit achy, but I'm going to go into work. Today is a day when I could come home at lunchtime if I feel awful, so I'll just see. At least I've had both jabs now.
Eldest DD in Germany has her first one today - she's not looking forward to it as she's really scared of needles.
I'm going to have a quick look at my bank so I'll wish you all a good day.10 -
I meant to add my nicknamed people to the ever growing list!! It's the Drab Couple. No matter what the weather they are dressed in drab clothing, have drab coloured hair and trail along looking thoroughly miserable. We started calling them that years ago and it just stuck. It does make me wonder though, have I got a nickname from anybody hereabouts ?!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"10

Morning folks.Since 7.00a.m. I've been on the phone to NS&I - almost 50 minutes. Two weeks ago I completed the online bereavement form and heard nothing back so rang to ask if I had done it properly. No-one can tell me! And they don't send out any form of acknowledgment at all, and there's a backlog so I will only hear when the file hits someones desk in about a month. It's just a piece of nonsense that an acknowledgement isn't sent. Cue me lodging a complaint and doing a little ranting at the poor person on the end of the phone. Now relaxing again.Yesterday was another flurry of stuff and phone calls, so much so that I went for a lie down at 4.00p.m. and woke at midnight. Crawled out of bed to change into pjs and then crawled back in again. The most fun bit was watching all the contents of the bags of paperwork from DM's place go up a big chute into the shredding machine and being spat out the other end in small bits. I found it fascinating, especially as the place contained huge bales of shredded paper, and I mean huge. I wanted to linger and ask a hundred questions but didn't.TA - how lovely to have your visitors, it's so cheery.Taff - my rosemary has blue flowers but has no family history, yours sounds so good.Csarina - hope that your OH is OK now.Camelot - perhaps today will be calmer!DP1 - it's funny how people react differently to the vaccine, hope you feel better today. This morning I'm having breakfast with Alan and then he'll come back with me to help shift more stuff. I've got a collection booked for Tuesday of all the black bags full of unwanted stuff. It's so awful this, so much of DM's treasures going in black bags, everything she had she regarded as precious. Anyway, can't dwell nor can I keep everything. The vast majority of the art materials was taken away yesterday for which I'm very grateful, the remainder will be in a black bag soon.Enough rambling, I hope that all our poorlies are feeling even a little better. Happy Wednesday to all.10

taff, I have snowdrops from mum and dad's garden, every January I think of them and the house where I grew up.
Csarina, that must have been scary. Many moons ago doing my First Aid at Work certificate a Red Cross volunteer who was teaching had obviously been traumatised by a varicose vein bleed because she dwelled on it so much. She was there for the next couple of refreshers and repeated the same thing every time - luckily after that the refreshers became much more professional because they were so boring (I used to pair up with the same dishy fireman for the practicals, it almost made them worthwhile - we never met anywhere else or had any other contact but we always ended up at the same course and got on really well).
It was lovely meeting my friends yesterday, the weather was lovely and looks to be just as gorgeous today. We are going on a hunt for a new barbecue for Chris, we shall see if we find one, they are having a barbecue for Crystal's family and us on Saturday and Chris wants a bigger barbie. I am also making freezer food for Esben, it was chicken curry yesterday, pizza and veggie flapjacks today I think.
Have a good day all.11 -
Morning, hugs if you need one. Thank you for your comments. Patient behaving for once, I know it frightened him..... Off to collect an order from Aldi. Back later.5

Morning all
Bright and sunny here again and another lovely day in store, I have stripped the beds after muddy dogs got on them and got them washing so they can go out on the line.
Will get the dogs out to the park this morning my friend is still MIA so I hope she is ok, will leave the afternoon dog walk till much later as it was far too hot for the hounds yesterday afternoon.
Filled pasta for dinner with salad and garlic bread so nice and easy. DW needs empying as always and a quick tidy through, this afternoon I must update my shopping for collection and clean the fridge out.
I am loving all these stories about 'our people' I too wonder if I am someones 'person'
Gers you seem to be getting on so well but is must be exhausting, please take time for yourself xxx
Have good days all xxx

Good morning everyone
Sorry for being MIA but I just don't feel I have something to say most days. It is very quiet here at the moment, I just sit and knit most of the day. Steve wants to make me a little nook in the front garden where I can sit in the shade and watch the world go by. I feel that would be lovely but we have neighbours that I call FogHorn LegHorn and Trog! (short for troglodyte) who would never leave me alone. Anyway, it is something to think about.
Steve is cooking tonight and we are going to have corned beef hash. I will knock up a couple of scone base pizzas for lunch and we have leftover gooseberry and elderflower trifle if we want something sweet.
Hope you are all enjoying this weather. Take care xx10
