Returning Amazon gift card

I was given an Amazon gift card to purchase Prime but I have discovered Amazon do not accept gift cards as a payment method for Prime. Is it possible to get a refund on the gift card? I would greatly appreciate if anyone who knows this before I or my generous buyer makes a possible wasted trip to Tesco.

They stock enough 'day to day' type items you could use up the credit on stuff you would buy anyway IMO3 -
I wanted to continue with Prime for the video, reading and music content. I have used Prime to have the free delivery but not that often. My relative who bought the gift card for me, has said I can keep it for the when I do purchase something. Yes, gift cards are valid for 10 years, so I've got plenty of time to purchase non Prime things
I could easily spend the gift card in 2 minutes on things I could do with
