Car broken into and everything gone

stupidly we went to London shopping for a weekend and on day two, the car was broken into and everything was taken out.

it’s a company car. Are we able to claim for the loss? We’ve lost quite a lot and all our luggage and laptops 😡😡

As a company car you need to check with your company's insurers. It may cover personal belongings to a level, if not your home insurance may well do if you have all risks cover.

It depends on what insurance you have, obviously.

Car insurance is unlikely to be any use - it mainly covers the car, not its contents. Some policies include a small amount of cover (eg a few hundred pounds) to cover the sort of things that might be left in the car on a semi-permanent basis (SatNav, tools etc), but few or no policies will cover large amounts of valuable luggage.

If you have Contents Insurance though you might be in luck. It will depend on whether you have cover for personal possessions outside the home, which is an optional extra on most policies. If so then you should be able to claim, the only possible catch being that most policies will include a term which says something along the lines of "we will only pay for goods that are stolen from an unattended car if they were stored in a locked boot or glove compartment".

    Was anything visible?
It’s brave leaving a couple of CDs on show, let alone luggage…

no everything was in the boot so not visible at all x absolutely nothing in the car so if anyone looked in there wasn’t even a pencil. The guy at the car park said he thought we had been watched 😡

If you were on a break, do you have any travel insurance that might cover it such as an annual travel policy or free travel insurance through a bank account?
