I see the Picanto starts at £11200, so that is quite appealing :D

£3200 more than the Dacia, seems expensive to me. :)

The Dacia looks fine to me, I wouldn't be able to tell it apart from any other 5 door Eurobox.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

When considering a "cheap" car don't forget to factor in depreciation / running costs. ie buying the cheapest car on the sticker price may cost more overall than a more expensive car as that may be worth more at re-sale time?

I like to get my money's worth mind you so I don't replace my car every couple of years so depreciation is slightly less of a concern to me.

I've had a brand new Picanto (on lease) and an older i10, and I've always much preferred the i10. The boot is bigger and it seats 5 adults easily, (although they probably wouldn't want to go on a long-haul trip in it). Mine is 11 years old now, and is still getting through the MOT, with nothing more than an advisory for slight corrosion (trusted mechanic says tester is "covering his backside")

The Picanto clutch is awful, although I used to drive every day in heavy town traffic, so I soon got used to it. The bloke in my garage reckoned I must have had "amazing" clutch control, as he stalled it several times when getting it on the ramp!

Definitely aim for a 1.2L if you can. If you're trying to get up a steep hill with a car load of people and their stuff, a 1L will struggle. It would have been quicker to get out and push my Picanto up a hill, I'll never buy a 1L car again, but I do live in a very hilly area.

My current car is a 1L and I've never had any issues with it ;)

MG5. The lower running costs make it the equivalent of buying something for £10k less.

    What type of budget?
For up to 3 people plus musical instruments, something larger than the Up etc.
I see the Picanto starts at £11200, so that is quite appealing :D

Never look at list prices on the manufacturer's websites, they're utterly meaningless.
There are plenty of sources online that will give you actual prices being asked.
'What Car' do a 'target price' service that it an actual price quoted to them by a dealer.
    'Carwow' will do the same.

No one will actually pay £11200 for a Picanto.
The 7 year Kia warranty is also worth paying a wee bit more than the Dacia for, as is the better depreciation.
