O/S Daily Tuesday 8 June 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Bright sunny start to the day. Yesterday's forecast rain never arrived. I got a line of washing dried yesterday - I have another load to peg out shortly.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was ham, scotch eggs, pork pie, HM potato salad, side salad, jacket potato, beans and cheese - all very much enjoyed. I got pork steaks out to defrost overnight - will serve them tonight with mash/potatoes, veg and gravy.
Yesterday work was busy, today I think will be similar.
keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, haven't had a scotch egg for years!
It was quite bright when I got up but it's getting darker by the minute. No washing to do today - not that I would put it out anyway as the farmer has spread something smelly on the fields!
Winter coat was all dry yesterday so that's packed away. I washed some other jackets last night too, it was very windy so they dried quite quickly, just one to air then it can go upstairs out of the way. Sorting all my shoes is tonight's job, they are all over the place and some can go away until the winter again.
Thinking of those with troubles and illness, take care. XX

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off. nmlc.Snoozer - I hope you're feeling better today.Yesterday was another day of activity. BHF blokes came to uplift some electrical stuff and managed to leave behind three items, one of which was holding the close door open. After a flurry of phone calls they came back in the afternoon to collect them.Just after lunch an estate agent came round to give me an informal valuation which I'm happy enough with. Here the usual practice is to list as 'offers over' but I'm bearing in mind the very dated kitchen (1989) on the down side and the new boiler and major roof work plus the dry rot work on the upside. And the location. Finally I've inserted a death notice in our Glasgow based national newspaper for Wednesday, just to let those who I don't know. I wasn't going to but was persuaded to.Now I have a target date to make the place market ready, get rid of the current guddle. The survey and photography is booked for Friday 18 June so I need to keep making tracks.DM had a very old three piece suite in one corner of the living room. Original 1930'ish with a female and make sized armchairs. It was destined for the tip which would have been just awful. A friend has connections in film / TV places and has managed to find a props company who will take it away to use. That's made me really happy. Now, today's there's an uplift of all the art materials, there's a huge amount so I hope that the art tutor takes it all. I've warned him about the amount and he seems OK with it. Fingers crossed.. 🤞
enough... I hide that things are well with everyone. Happy Tuesday to all.12 -
Morning all. I might not be very good at getting up early but I do like it when I am awake, after walking round with boiled egg eyes for the first hour ish. I was quite productive yesterday for a change, two loads of washing, moved a pocket on a t shirt, magic cupboard filled and emtied, clothes put away etc but the cat flap did not get installed, we got carried away with Hearthstone so not a lot was done when he was home. Every morning when I come back after taking him to work I see a man running down the street, I presume to work and he's always late, hence the running, so now he's my talisman of everything being alright with the world and I call him Running Man in my head...So today, there is merely garden pottering, the compost bin was filled yesterday so there's some rearranging and potting on to do. I put two tiny stachys [lambs ear] plants in the front garden last year. They have colonised the area now and the calla lilies I thought had been completely frosted are flowering. I'm going to divide them this year, I want some in the back garden. I need to come up with something for supper, all the easy stuff has been cooked, it's recipe hunting time today as well.Gers, it's lovely to hear that your mums things are going on to be useful somewhere else. Monna, happy haircut day..TA, hope the hoover lived up to expectations after a through testing...I still love my new one. Hope you're all doing as well as you can, think happy thoughts, dance happy dances etc even if only in your head...carpe diem and all that....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi11

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A nice bright start and a lovely day to follow. Having given up of any rain falling I fed and watered all the plants at the back yesterday. One or two are still looking a bit sad after the winter but I live in hope they will soon perk up.
GERS you have me dizzy with all you are achieving and how lovely that your DM's old suite is going to be famous!. You will be glued to all the new TV period dramas in case you can spot it.
I actually had company, other than immediate family, INDOORS yesterday for the first time in 15 months!! My oldest friend texted to say she had a big bag of books for me and would be dropping them off if I was in. I had an equally big bag for her too! We sat and chatted for ages, despite having been in contact daily throughout all the lockdowns and restrictions! It's so nice to have face to face conversations.
There's a neighbourhood war going on up here but it's nothing to do with me so I am watching from the sidelines!! One lady has had the ugliest "porch" affair erected in front of her patio doors (probably so she can sit out in private) but next door are not happy as they think it's unsightly and it's spoiling their outlook. This is them with the tallest of fences blocking the outlook of the neighbours on the other side! I await further developments!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, poorly loved ones, or those with worries and woes. Take care all xx

Morning all.
TA, nothing more diverting than neighbours at war, especially when one of them is so unreasonable. "I am entitled to a pleasant view, but you are not."
Gers I think of you when I am filling innumerable bin liners with 30 handbags, 100 skirts and dresses, dozens of shawls......and that's just what is piled on the bedroom floor. I haven't opened the wardrobes yet. The lady loved her clothes! My old friend has Social Services coming round today to see if the flat can be made suitable for his wife to come back to. Personally, I don't think that there is a snowball's chance in hell of her coming home, but you never know. He has asked me to be there when they come so that should be interesting.
I cast a jaundiced eye over my own des res and wonder what I have been doing during the long months of lockdown. Not over much it would appear.
Most of my garden is on my kitchen windowsill. I really must plant some of it, the cosmos seedlings are nearly as tall as the windows and when the sun shines it struggles through the jungle of plants and fills the kitchen with a greenish light.

Morning everyone
Little one came for tea yesterday when I got home from work. She was very excited 'I've had mine hair cut' - my sister in law had trimmed her fringe. She has beautiful golden curls but it was flopping into her face and had to be clipped back. Her mummy was almost bald till she was 2 and then had very fine hair, so she loves little ones long curls.
I'm going for my 2nd jab this morning so I'm crossing my fingers I'll be ok this time. Then I have work from lunchtime. I've woke up with a headache I could have done without!
Gers pleased to hear your mums suite may appear on stage or TV one day - I didn't know there were ever male and female armchairs!
Camelot you've reminded me my winter 'school' coat needs washed - I've already done it once before it got cold again.
I'd better get moving and get a few things done before it's time to get the bus into town.
It's cloudier here than it has been but still warm. Little one and I watered the plants in the back garden last night and it promptly started to rain. Only for half an hour though - she was so excited cos I let her run round the garden in the rain!
Hope everyone has a good day

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling a lot better although I had to go food shopping yesterday and ended up feeling very limp. I have a treat this afternoon as my two best friends are coming round this afternoon. I've seen them both individually a few times but this will be the first time we have all three been together for over 18 months.
Steve has a golf competition this afternoon so I hope it doesn't get too hot but it looks like it's going to be a beautiful day.
Apart from those things it will be another quiet day, Laura and Brian have gone up to Glasgow to visit his mother and will be coming home tomorrow so no doubt things will get busier again then.
Have a good day, I hope all the poorlies are as well as can be expected.11 -
Morning all
Lovely sunny day here I have a wash on the go which should dry well today. Dw needs emptying and also a sweep round again, we have a lovely cream floor in the kitchen (big cream tiles) but it does show every bit that dropped or walked in !
Did not see my walking friend yesterday so will see if she is there today, I took the dogs out twice yesterday in a bid to get fitter and lose some weight so will do the same today.
Taff we have a woman locally who walks all day every day without stopping, we started off calling her www.madwalkingwoman.com but its now been shortened to Dotall is right in the world when we see Dot !
Gers How lovely that the sofa goes on to be used again and Im glad you have a target to aim for it always helps me to concentrate xxx
Jacket spuds for dinner so no great effort there is ham and cheese and salad to go with it and dd will have beans with hers.
Have good days all xx11 -

A quick post from me as DGS is here, yesterday too due to inset days & Mum & Stepdad working, as is DS2 but he may finish earlier. I have a loaf about to finish in the bm as DGS loves it, but we may have lunch in the park, we were there for 3 hours yesterday! Apparently the little cafe was taken over by the Lancs wildlife trust and the food is much improved I'll see what he wants to do.An outside chance DGD may meet us there too. It's a lovely day.Gers- I like the idea of the suite being used too.Snoozer enjoy your afternoon.Dp1 my DGD has the thickest wavy hair, it's beautiful.Mine on the other hand is thin and fine!Love to the poorlies and those with troubles x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'.
