Fascia / Soffit capping and gutter replacement

So some of the soffit were looking tatty and gutters were leaking. We have an internal damp patch on a wall (but probably another story) so we asked a few roofers for quotes to replace the fascias and soffits and gutter (leaking at seals). One of them was from a reputable local roofing firm, recommended in the village (and they have a number of vans, decent size - too much history and at risk if have thought to be cowboys etc.). We accepted the quote as it seemed in the right ball park. The quote explicitly states removal and disposal of fascias and then replacement with new UPVC 18mm fascia boards (£935 ex vat for one side of a detached house inc gutters)
Today they started work, and I went out midway to have a conversation and they were simply capping the fascias. When I questioned, they said that the existing boards were in reasonable condition and this is what they "do." In fact it would be very difficult to replace as they have been nailed high up or something. I sort of accepted this to an extent but pointed out that the quote was for full replacement- not capping. He responded and said, yes they would have to "look at that."
I'm a bit irritated all round to be honest. I probably would have just repainted if I had my time again as (1) there's mixed views on capping and (2) they have not installed vents to let the air flow through the underlying soffit vents (3) I would have hoped/expected that if their plan changed or there was a mistake when quoting, they would have approached and agreed the changes to the work first (4) I trust that when they invoiced they would have reflected this, in the case this happened to someone who perhaps didn't check or know the difference.
I now have to wait to see what their invoice will look like. Hopefully it will reasonably reflect the work done and a dispute won't be required.
Wondered if anyone knows the ballpark for fascia cladding for one side of a detached house (standard 4 bed). Its just fascias and soffit- no gable ends or anything?
Any other advice or thoughts would also be much appreciated.

Sorry should have checked that before posting, didn't realise you couldn't edit typos etc! Hopefully it makes enough sense!0

I would tell them to take the capping boards off and do what you are paying them for. It’s a lot less work to over clad your fascias and soffits, and also cheaper in materials and no waste to get rid off.0

I have emailed to follow up and asked for an updated invoice, let's see what turns up...0 -
Just had whole detached house, front/back (8m x 2) and double garage (5m x 2) for £4k inc vat. This included lfiting tiles, new ... underlay stuff, fascias, boards, guttering, downpipes, and above windows/porch, 50 year guarantee. 1k for a single side sounds about the same I suppose, but not just for capping, that is a pointless if you have any rotting (I did on the ends).0
