Apparently Owe £356 to QDR Solicitors Debt Recovery - No idea why?!?

Hi Jordan, QDR solicitors often buy debts from other companies so it might be that you have an outstanding debt with another company which has been bought by QDR? Some of their biggest clients are phone contracts and internet providers such as EE, O2 and Virgin Media...could you owe any money to these companies?
If not, or you’re just not sure, you should definitely get in touch with them either way as ignoring debt collectors only ever escalates the situation. If they have sent you a letter, which they should have done first, that should outline the company you owe the original debt to. If not, write to them asking for proof or call them with your account number. Failure on both QDR and your original creditors' part to inform you the debt has been sold will be grounds for you to make a complaint.

Ahh I've had phone contracts with O2 but I don’t believe I had any debts with them. How can I check?

You can call them up and ask directly or you can check your credit report for free (never pay for this service) with experian, equifax or credit karma. Either way, whether you owe a debt or not, stay in contact with QDR and keep all your communications in case you need to make a complaint.

OK thank you - I will definitely do that. If I do owe the debt and I had just made a mistake in the past, what shall I do?

There are several things you can do but they all differ depending on whether you do actually owe, how much you owe, how much time has passed since you first defaulted. For example, if it has been more than 6 years since you first defaulted and no one has been in touch and you can prove this (this is why you should keep all records of communications) then your debt could be classified as statute-barred and you may not have to pay anything. Until I know your situation for certain I cannot offer any specific advice. Here is a good article I found on how to deal with QDR that should help answer some of your questions and tell you your options and next steps.

Thanks Mary, that’s helpful. Just had a quick look and the website says I should send a prove it letter - can I do this via email instead? I’m worried about having a record in case this goes to court.
Does an email hold up in court as well as a letter?

I would not phone them, send the "provit letter", you can do this by email if you wish, but post is more official, and leaves you a paper trail, emails tend to be lost or ignored.
You won`t have to hold anything up in court lol, they first have to evidence your liability for this debt, then we`ll take it from there.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
