the override function is triggered by switching on and off quickly. for example, switch on, switch off, then switch back on within 1 second ....
in order to reset it, you'd want to switch it off (at the consumer unit if you have no local switch for it) for a few minutes, then turn it back on

This will be what has happened when I had the power cuts.  But I’ll try again - thank you

Power cuts and restores are not always as 'clean' OFF and ONs as one would hope; but if the light's been stuck on through a series of such outages, it's probably unlikely that is the cause.  However, it costs nothing but a a bit of time to check that possibility... and if it don't cure it then a replacement PIR/luminaire complete will be likely needed.

MSE membership demands this test before spending out on a repair or replacement ;)

Do let us know the outcome.

I've had 3 LED PIRs, all have worked well for a few months then flickered relentlessly before failing.

2 were from Aldi, the third a floodlight from Lidl so not pricey but even so I expected them to last more than a year each. Where am I going wrong?
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

I’m sure I will get shot down for this but I suspect buying them from Lidl and Aldi is where you have gone wrong. LED’s are not something which can be manufactured to a price and when the accountants get involved, the quality suffers. That tends to be evidenced in the lack of a sufficient heat sink to draw heat away from the LEDs meaning they very quickly overheat and destroy themselves. Given that Lidl and Aldi specialise in manufacturing and selling for as cheap as possible, it makes it more likely that the quality could be somewhat suspect.

Of course, LEDs from any source could be suspect but in my experience, problems with LEDs are less likely to arise when buying from a big, well respected brand name, such as Philips, Osram etc.

I fit these ones they have a 2 year guarantee https://www.discount-electrical.co.uk/section.php/111045/1/ansell-lighting-calinor-led-floodlights theyare still no brilliant but cheap and very few fail within 2 years
the really cheap ones that are available for £5-10, theres just no quality control and they are really inconsistent.
