Damaged trampoline by neighbours builder

Hello,
My sisters neighbour has had a builder in & they've thrown cigarette ends over the wall and they have burned holes in my nieces 10ft trampoline.
My sister can't afford a new trampoline & neither can I, they're just ignoring my sisters complaints
Is there anything we can do?
Apologies if it's in the wrong section, wasn't sure where to post.
Many thanks
Warm regards
V

How old was the trampoline?
Is she trying to claim from the neighbour or the builder?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
It's a good few years old, she's just spoken to the builders, furious that they would throw burning cigarette ends at the trampoline.pinkshoes said:How old was the trampoline?

Just seeing there's anything we can do, even if they bought a replacement mat for it.
I don't know how people can act like this. Sister is single parent on UC trampoline was a gift a few years ago.0 -
Mmmm, call their bluff collect the fag ends and inform them that they you will be involving the police for criminal damage or something along those lines. Not sure what else you can do.0

The builders were clearly negligent in throwing cigarette ends over the wall, they ought to have been more careful and should have thought about the damage this might cause. Your sister has cause to go to the small claims court if the builders refuse to make amends.0

Small claims court. Legal cover?0

She should probably at first try putting the details in writing and setting out the remedy she is hoping for. She needs to be realistic with this though, look up the prices of replacement mats or even other similar used trampolines available in the area.1

Indeed - which will be the cost of an equivalent piece of equipment, not a brand new one.pphillips said:The builders were clearly negligent in throwing cigarette ends over the wall, they ought to have been more careful and should have thought about the damage this might cause. If it is a few years old she can only claim the second hand value.pinkshoes said:How old was the trampoline?

As the builders were contracted by the neighbour, then I would send the bill to the neighbour and he/she should then claim from the builder.
The other her option is giving the builder 7 days to replace the trampoline with a similar one otherwise you will be taking the cigarette butts with their DNA all over them as evidence and reporting it to the police as criminal damage, and they can then deal with the police.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

It may be damage, but we don't know that it's criminal damage. Even if it is, and the cops show any interest, they're hardly likely to be getting the forensic labs involved! And if it is a crime, it's still a crime after you've given some cash to the victim.pinkshoes said:

Certainly meets the criteria for criminal damage.user1977 said:
