Damp spongy wall behind tiles. Help please!

We noticed a leak coming from the cracked grout around the tiled bath wall. We’ve removed the tiles and found that areas of the wall behind are wet and crumbly/ spongy. Is there anything else we can do apart from keeping the tiles off and keeping the wall dry to make it dry and ready to be re tiled?

If the wall is that bad then the backing might need replacing.  I would remove the tiles and replace any unsound material.

    Hi CD.
Can you tell if it's plasterboard, or plaster applied to a solid wall?
Either way, the plaster itself is clearly soaked and cannot be rescued. The soft damaged stuff needs to be removed, and the repair will then depend on what the wall is - solid or hollow.
