Shower not draining - not even a drop

I am asking this on behalf of my niece. She was abroad for work for 3-months and returned to her flat a week ago.
We noticed that her shower isnt draining out of the waste pipe at all (we checked outside while it was on). Instead, within a minute or two the water is appearing from under the shower and flooding the floor.
We tried the kitchen and bathroom sink taps and they are draining fine, albeit via different waste pipes.
There is a pump for the shower to "suck the water" out and thats on.
I tried to remove the shower grill then the trap, but the trap looks integrated into the shower; so couldnt do that
There is no plinth to open and look under the shower. The bathroom floor is cement.
We are contacting plumbers, but it would be helpful to have an idea what could be happening here and possible solutions.

The shower tray needs a pump to suck the water out?! Is it because the tray is lower than the waste pipe?Anyhoo, if there's water coming out, it surely means a crack in a pipe, fitting or pump casing, or else a connection has simply come apart.Where's the pump located?1

Thankks for the reply.
TBH, I cant answer any of those questions and nor can my niece as we simply don't know why there is a pump or its location, just there is a switch in an adjoining cupboard labelled shower and I've been told its a pump. It gurgles alot though"enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0 -
Pumps are usually used to supply water to the shower, and not take it away. Having said that, it's possible that a waste pump is used in some locations, say when installed in a basement.Confirm, please - water IS draining from the tray down the waste grill, but is then appearing out from under the tray? Or is the actual tray slow in draining?Tbh, I can't think of anything a laypeep can check. You need a plumber.1

There are pumps available for wet rooms/ showers trays. A company called Whale produce the Gulper range. If it has not been used for a while it could have jammed, or flow switch not sensing water flow, filter restricted, pump not receiving a power signal due to other component issue or something else.
Repairing is easy for a competent technician familiar with the actual product, as usual there are youtube videos offering some self help (hopefully).
Quiet often those pumps are on a service contract or have previous history.
Should be an easy repair, good luckChoose Stabila !3 -
It could be clogged up with hair. There are drain products available which get rid of the obstacle.

I'm surprised it's overflowing/leaking, tho' - why should that happen from underneath the tray just because the pump is blocked or not working?
