Do the actual readings on your final bill agree with the readings in your photographs?  I have known suppliers provide final bills with estimated readings despite being given the correct ones.  If it all ties up then nothing to worry about.

When you left the LL should have also read the meters and rung your supplier and taken account in his/her name.  Although there may have been no consumption daily standing charges would apply - is what the LL is saying is your responsibility ?    If so they are wrong (and they have probably also invalidated their insurance in not visiting the property)
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

She isn’t giving me any idea as to why she thinks it’s our responsibility apart from saying that she hasn’t been there so she isn’t paying it. But the bill is very clear in that it says it is from the 16th of the month onwards, when we moved out on the 15th.
She went back yesterday which is why she has picked this bill up, but she spoke to our old neighbours who are our friends and said that is the first time she has been back there in 4 years!
The letting agent who was managing the property emailed us the meter readings with pictures so I guess they sent them to her too so there really shouldn’t be any discrepancy.

    Thanks for everyone’s replies.
  • Letting agent was helpful to you about the deposit. Explain all to them, point out that landlady has incurred standing charges since you left. And politely that you wouldn't expect further contact from her, let alone about small claims court.
