But would this still apply in the case of a pre-existing condition?
Only the insurer can answer that which is why so many of the replies have advised the OP to speak to them.  It seems to be advise they are reluctant to follow.
I hope we don't see a sob story in the papers any time soon of somebody trying to crowdfund a massive hospital bill because the evil insurer has refused to pay out.

I appreciate everyone’s advice. It’s more of a sanity check than a ‘this is what we’re doing regardless’. Can’t speak to the insurers until Monday so kind of just waiting until then. Hopefully they cover it.

I can only say as I see it as a stranger who's not emotionally involved with seeing family.
It's your wife and childs health that's at stake, maybe ok or maybe not. Should she give birth in the US at phenomenal cost that would also impact on your future.
I personally wouldn't take the risk and wait until family could visit which hopefully won't be too long, or could take the baby to them but if you really must go I agree, speak to the insurance companies and then confirm in writing/email with the scans and medical report attached so that there can be no misunderstanding.
Also read the terms and conditions throughly to be sure you are covered.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I think from previous posts that the mother is a US citizen so am not sure whether she is insured. They normally seem to think they have a superior healthcare system even though the rest of the world may not agree. That debate could go on forever.
