O/S Daily Saturday 5 June 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Sunny start to the day, although there is some light cloud, damp underfoot after the rain yesterday afternoon and evening. Yesterday the weather was good in the morning so I managed to get 2 lines of washing dry before the rain started..
DH watching catchup tv, DS1 still in his pit. I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had baked fish and veg. Tonight will be noodles and veg, mixed rice dish, some chinese dumplings and some other picky bits from the freezer.
I'm working this morning hence why I'm up stupid early.
Yesterday I got done what I wanted.
This afternoon will be a chilled done as we're going to see a family member tomorrow morning as they need some work done at their house.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.Yesterday seemed to be really busy in a slow motion way. I was up and out by 8.30am as I wanted to get to the bank first thing. Then it was a round of shopping before I treated myself to breakfast in a wee cafe. In the afternoon I had my stitches out which wasn't as difficult as I was expecting. Now I've got four more half hour appointments in September and October for the final processes.I made lots of phone calls about DM's flat arranging an auctioneer to value a couple of paintings which she bought. Late on I decided to sort through DM's jewellery, mostly modern and low value I particularly wanted to find a wee star shaped brooch which my great-grandmother wore and my DM prized even though it's made of glass and base metal. It took me a while and a few scary moments before I found it where I'd put it for safety. 😱 DM had wanted to see it again about 10 days before her death and I hadn't put it back in the usual place. Panic over!
Today I've got a couple of big strong men coming round to help me with stuff. One is staying over which I'll really enjoy. They'll dig out all the painting materials which are being collected on Tuesday. My hope of more sleep evaporated at about 5.00a.m. Too much on my mind to rest. Now it's time to wish you all a very happy Saturday.7 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another beautiful day in store so this afternoon might find me in the garden reading. I want to pop down town on the early bus this morning for some bits and bats. Mostly to stock up on fruit to keep me going till my sm delivery next Friday.
The gasman finally cameth at 3.00 yesterday, after I had been twiddling my thumbs all day. He couldn't see a problem with the condensing pipe (whatever that is) but he confirmed that the boiler is indeed living on borrowed time (like it has been for 6 years!) and is one step away from being condemned! So I guess the time has come to shop around. He said the average lifespan of a boiler these days is 15 years and mine is the grand old age of 21, so I can't really complain I suppose.
GERS is it today you have the ex student coming with wine!! It will be nice to have some company and help with the clearing out. EDIT!! Cross posting and noticed that yes you do have help!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies and poorly loved ones. Take care x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.You are really cracking on Gers! It's good though, there's no point in hanging about, you might as well get it sorted now. I'm glad your dental work is going smoothly.Thank you for your good wishes for our little trip to Northumberland in the caravan - we are going to Beadnell, just along the road from Seahouses. I'm sure you'll know it.Yesterday, was a pottering sort of day, I went to the library to exchange my books, and nipped into the cheap freezer shop for one or two things, then home. It was a warmish day, but turned chilly in the evening, as it often does here, so we put the fire on in the sitting room later. The front of our house faces north, so it's usually cool even when it's hot outside. My DS in Oz laughs at my idea of hot though, he's lived there for 20 years and is acclimatised now.I must shop today, and sort some clothes out for next week. Hope everyone has a s good a day as they can - take care folks.9

I'm just popping back to say Happy Birthday for yesterday to Nanny, hope you had a good day, and hello to Mehefin, good to see you!

Good morning.
Glad to hear that you are cracking on so well Gers. I don't suppose that you will sleep well for a bit. Your body may grow tired, but your brain will be buzzing. Lovely to have help and company, it makes the work go much quicker.
Sorry to hear about the imminent demise of your boiler TA. I had to have a new one when I moved into my bungalow and choked at the cost. As I last had a new boiler when Methusulah was a lad, it was a big shock.
I'm back to the Flat of Doom today in a final push to get the bedroom floor cleared.
Looks as though it's going to be sunny for most of us. Make the most of it.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Sunny this morning but not as warm as it has been - perfect day for pottering at the allotment. There's shopping to do and a visit to the little local nursery for some plants for the front troughs. If the rain stays away I'll go for spraying weed killer on the front drive too.
I slept for a solid 8 hours last night but feel a little foggy this morning, I'm sure once I've had a shower I'll be ready to face the day.
Happy Birthday for yesterday Nanny, hope you enjoyed your day.
Missing Marie, tru and Mehefin, would be lovely to hear from you.
Oh dear TA, that sounds expensive.
Good luck monna, sounds like a mammoth task.
Glad you have help this weekend Gers, make the most of it and enjoy the wine!
Have a lovely weekend, take care. XX8 -
Morning, Hugs if you need one. Have a good day Gers, not too much wine though!!
My goodness what a change from yesterday, it was very grey all day, then in the evening it brightened up a bit, I was still awake at 5am although I think I may have napped for a while, went off then till 7.30am by which time the sun was pouring in to the bedroom window and opening the back door its quite warm out. DB has broken out the shorts and I have a skirt on rather than trousers.
T the gardener worked for an hour in our garden and then I went with him over to my neighbour and planted up her containers, It did look nice when we had done. it will be better as the plants grow. I was crackered when we finished. I had to sit down a couple of times to let my back recover. I will go over later and make sure they are all ok. B sat and watched us work.
Cold supper tonight corned beef and salad, then DB can have stovies in the week.

Morning all
Bright and sunny here looks like a lovely day bit of a change from yesterday evening when I had thick pyjamas on with socks and a gillet over the top and was still cold, we ended up lighting the fire with the four logs we had left it was just enough to warm the room through for the evening.
The log man is coming this morning after he forgot last week hopefully we wont have to light it again before autumn but you never know.!!
Once the log man has been we will take the puppers out for a long walk and then I think will try again for a bbq tonight.
I have a towel wash on the go and will hang it on the line and need to have a tidy through down stairs.
Gers Im glad you have some company and some help today it might make the task more bearable xx
Nan I hope you have not got a stonking hang over
Have good days all xx8 -
Hello from a sunny Mehefinland
Been enjoying the sunny day but its clouding up a bit now. The girls will be happy as it might stop the flies biting a but. Still waiting to get shoe back on Scoobymare - she has continual abscesses and its been rumbling on for months. Then to top it all Stevie 2shoes hit his thumb with a hammer and can't work at the moment!! Hopefully sorted on Monday.
Just received the latest vet bill for Lagan long neck after her latest bout of colic EEEK!! Just short of £400. Started to warn her about dog food if she doesn't buck her ideas up. Not really her fault, we think its a legacy of years of neglect, and its a price you have to pay with older animals sometimes.
Hope Nan has recovered.
hugs and spoons as always
