Hi
Just wonder if anyone can help me, I have a Dell inspirion 6400,
Genuine Intel CPU T2250 at 1.73Ghz, 2 GB ram with windows XP. I only have a 40gb hard drive though so I need to replace it with something larger as this is already full.
Can anyone tell me if this will be compatible? Also is this easy to fit?

In the event that this is no good can someone please make another suggesstion.

Hmm, isn't the Inspiron 6400 a lappie?
If so, you would need to replace it with one of these
However, I would be seriously tempted to get myself an external hard drive rather than fork out than much!0 -
Your suggested drive will need a crowbar to fit into your laptop
.
Look at the 2.5 laptop drives and use your machine (control panel, system, hardware and finally divice manager) to find out what type is currently fitted or look at the specifications for your laptop at Delll's website to find out if it is IDE or SATA.0 -
I have an external 500gb drive but its just not convenient
Cheers though0 -
Is there nowhere other than dell where I can buy this for less0

simple answer is no, I'm afraid. One of the pitfalls of buying laptops, I'm afraid, they aren't particularly upgradeable.0

Yeah, fitting it is easy (normally requires a few screws to be removed, but no harder than fitting an internal hard drive).
Just remember that you will probably only have space for one hard drive so you'll have to find a way of transfering all your files and reinstalling the O/S. Have a search on eBay for a cable to plug a 2.5" drive into a USB port ... they're one of the most useful things I have ever bought!
