Elderly care home funding?

I believe that if you are certified, ie detained under the Mental Health Act rather than a voluntary patient, then NHS Continuing Care payments are much easier to obtain.billybonds4 said:A family friend had a couple of years battling but won this point in a similar situation with his father who was placed in a secure unit due to extreme dementia.
You feel it's a shame her house may have to be sold: there are other options but if she does not need it any more, is there anything to be gained by leaving it standing empty until she dies?Signature removed for peace of mind1 -
It's more a case of why pay with her estate if she's entitled to funding.Savvy_Sue said:

I'd of thought the vast majority of people would relate to that?

Have you contacted a SOLLA agent (Society Of Later Life Advisors)? When we sought help for my elderly parents were were pointed in the direction of one who gave us a free one hour consultation.
He told us about all sorts of benefits and regulations that could be made available as well as the legal obligations of the local council and NHS.
SOLLA agents are specialist government approved financial advisors, specifically trained for this sort of situation, and I would recommend trying to find one near you.
In our case we decided to sell my parents' property to fund their care since we didn't need the proceeds ourselves, and it meant we got to choose where my parents went to live, and the care package that suited them best.
I suggest you continue with the LPOA applications no matter what, and ask the council to make an immediate fast-track Continuing Health Care assessment.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister.
