I’ve got an old iPad mini that’s about 7 years old. If I back it up onto iCloud and buy an iPad air 2020, can I restore it to my new Air?
and if I have a clear out on my old iPad mini, delete all the rubbish off it, then back it up, will it delete the old apps and photos from iCloud, so when I restore to my new iPad, I only get the latest data?

You don’t need to back it up to iCloud to do the transfer. When setting up the new iPad you put it close to the old one when prompted during the setup and it will then transfer your data and settings from the old one. This should be faster than restoring from iCloud. It will still download the apps from the AppStore to make sure they are up to date.0

Besides a Factory Reset if selling YOU MUST REMOVE THE ICLOUD ACCOUNT otherwise it will default to yours and cannot be resold (at least with who I used) didn’t know this until I sold some old iPhones0
