O/S Daily Friday 4 June 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was hot quiche, ham, pork pie (menfolk), hot new potatoes, boiled egg, potato salad/coleslaw and salad - lovely it was too. Food will be a quick and easy meal tonight also.
I have the normal "to do" list today so will being going food shopping first thing. I have a wash load to peg out shortly. Love being able to washing line dried - so much easier. I will tackle housework in a bit before it gets too hot.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.Last night I thought about my day, decided it had been fairly lazy until I listed what I'd done, wasn't really so lazy after all!My hair cut was swift, I don't like it being fiddled around with, just thinned and given texture after the cut. I've never wanted to spend time blow drying my hair do it's a wash and go style. After a chat with my solicitor I called a local estate agent to come to do an informal valuation. The flat isn't market-ready yet but I want to get going so need a target, perhaps in two or three weeks it'll be in a state to be photographed. I don't need confirmation (what's called probate in England) to start the process off which was very welcome news.I had some cards printed up with a photo of Ursula and a little bit of a blurb about her. Yesterday afternoon I did all the address labels on the laptop and got all them into envelopes and stamped all ready to go today. There's a number which I need to take to a post office for overseas stamps so that's on my agenda for today.Today's also the day I get my mouth stitches out 😀it's been a long three weeks since the surgery.Sorry, I haven't read back too much recently but my thoughts really are with everyone. ❤️Happy Friday to all.13

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. After a day of cloud yesterday the sun is back with us today but the temps are now less oppressive than earlier in the week thankfully.
Well the gas man returneth today. No doubt with more dire warnings of impending doom. My time slot is all day!! So he could arrive any time between 8 and 6. But at least I will get the customary half an hour telephone warning before his arrival. I won't be able to put my mind to anything until he has been and gone. I hate having any sort of workmen in. I hope he comes early and then I am not dithering around all day.
No more plans with not knowing when he will descend, so the Friday Tidy is on hold. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, poorly loved ones or those with worries and woes. Take care one and all xx

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC..You've been busy Gers, will you go home for the weekend, or keep going with your jobs in Glasgow? It's sunny here, I love these summer mornings when it's light so early. There's just the usual household jobs to do, and I'll get a few clothes out for going away on Monday. We 're going to a site on the Northumberland coast, so not far. It's just across the road from the beach, so it can be a bit chilly at times, but I'll take a warm jacket just in case.. We pack for all seasons.Hope everyone is ok, and has a good day - take care folks.13

Gers, I think a few of us have had to do what you are doing now. It's a bitter sweet time and very exhausting. I tried to regard myself as a house-clearing service and that I was doing it for a client. I thought it would take the emotion out of the situation. It even worked a bit, now and again. I'm so glad that you have friends to help, it makes that little bit easier.
I awoke to rain splattering on the windows this morning. What happened to our sunshine? It doesn't bother me as I'll be back in my friend's flat this morning. They are coming to assess the flat on Tuesday, presumably to see if it is suitable for his wife to come back to. It may well be, but there is going to have to be a pretty comprehensive care package in place because he is far too frail to look after her himself.
I hate it when the end of life is so messy.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a good day and that the gas man cometh and goeth nice and early TA.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Morning all
Raining here and quite chilly I do hope that was not our summer ! I woke in the night several times feeling cold so I will be back under the duvet tonight !
DD and I are off to Portsmouth today shopping its only about 1/2 hr away in the car so not too bad, dd is desperate for summer clothes so we will go and have a mooch round I could do with some t-shirts too, we will have a bit of lunch while out but hopefully be back early afternoon as we will need to walk the dogs and I like to have a sit down.
Not sure about dinner tonight but we have plenty in. DW needs empying and I will have a quick tidy round.
Gers I hope you manage to get a lot done this weekend xxx
Have good days all xx11 -
Morning all,I didn't get on here yesterday morning as we were getting ready for DH aunts funeral. I'd been asking the menfolk about white shirts, ties and suitable trousers. I washed about 6 different shirts as they haven't been used in a while & needed freshening up. DH started trying the pants - it was quite clear he couldn't last all day in them, or probably even drive with them, lockdown tum had struck again
, anyway 3rd time lucky with a pair that luckily DS2 hadn't taken when he moved out !
It was sad but DH cousin had tried to make it more a celebration of her mums life, being in her late 90s. It was a bit strange being with a lot more people than we've been used to recently, but lovely to see DH cousins & catch up. We ended up fetching some food home as the venue seemed to have massively overcatered, especially when numbers were restricted. We just had a lazy late afternoon when we got back. Nothing planned for today, might plant up some pots that next door gave us.Gers good luck with the estate agent etc.. it's a sad but necessary task. Thanks for the pm too.Back to today, tea needs sorting, I have diced lamb in the fridge and also mince but I feel it's a bit warm, thinking cap on! Take care all.

Morning, hugs if you need one. Gers, clearing someones accommodation is not the easiest task in the world, pleased to hear that you have help coming. You will find things that make you cry and things that make you smile. It is a job that can be soul destroying but also one that can bring peace. Take care, my thoughts are with you just now.
So yesterday we had a journey into town to collect DB's orthotics for his feet and also batteries for our hearing aids. We called at the garden centre on the way home, I was hoping to find a couple more bacopa, no such luck, ended up with 2 trailing lysemachia, one white and one blue companulia. Once home the postman delivered another clematis, this one for the fence nearest the house. T is coming today so plenty for him to do. He will put the plants in and also weed the front garden and cut down the grape hyacinths.
East supper tonight, fish and chips, possibly ice cream for dessert.9 -
Morning all. Trip to ikea went off swimmingly, and even though we managed to leave at 5pm, the rush hour traffic was nowhere near as bad as it used to be. You'd be nose to tail all the way back, but this time, we had space to overtake and go at a fair clip. There really must be hundreds of people continuing to work from home and good on them I say. Next trip to book is to costco for sure. I was very restrained, I bought a crepe pan, which was on the list, a lid, which was not and a solar light which was not. That was it.So today is washing day, one load I think, I made chicken curry last night so that;s there for tonight, trip to the tip this morning and I must plant out the runners, they are all tangled up between themselves. And I had to re-sow some yellow runner type ones and some bush ones, and because I didn't label it, I thought, oh, I'll remember but obviously, I forgot because I dont have a memory palace, I have a forgetful shack. Going to have to wait until the grow a lot more before I know which is which...Happy Birthday Nanny, hope it's a great one, you could do with some cheer
Gers, you're zipping through it aren't you and it's the best way I think [I'm not zipping through it at all but wish I could have] TA, hope your man has been and gone by now and your boiler remains viable...Ruby, have a nice day out. Rosy, it sounds lovely, if you can say such a thing, I'd like a cheerful funeral, I'm going to make them all dance if I can...Right, away to the tea mug for pre tip sustenance...Have a good day...
