Hi guys
So today as I was driving I thought the tyre had punctured, however I saw black smoke from the rear view mirror. The car kept jerking and wouldn't pick up any speed. It also kept stalling or would feel like it's about to stall.
It's been driving just fine this morning. I was shocked to experience this. There is no check engine light and it had given a loud bang. The car starts now but sounds funny.
I will get it checked out, however I don't know much about cars. I want to be a little more informed before I go to a garage.
Any help will be appreciated.

it is possible that part of the fuel injection system or any turbocharger is damaged. The engine management light should have come on, so there may be more than one fault as it did not. It might be better to get a mobile mechanic to come to the car rather than try to drive it to a garage. It might help others to be more specific if you can tell us what make and model of car it is, and what sort of engine it has (e.g. diesel/petrol, size). The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

I had something similar a few years ago in my VW diesel (smoke, lack of power, but no loud bang) - in my case it turned out that there was a turbo hose which had ruptured and had to be replaced1

DO NOT start it.
Get it recovered to a garage and diagnosed properly.
You'll get a myriad of guesses and masses of speculation here, none of which will tell you the fault.1 -
But no doubt Fred will be along to tell you to fix it yourself, and point to a YouTube video.The_Fat_Controller said:DO NOT start it.

There was a recent thread with almost exactly the same event.
Sadly, I can't locate it to link as it may help the OP. I'll keep searching...0 -
I got RAC round to take a look at it. He said the pipe had come off. He clicked it back in. I'm not good with terminology relating to cars, however I think he said it was the coolant pipe.tacpot12 said:it is possible that part of the fuel injection system or any turbocharger is damaged. He also suggested to clean under the bonnet as there was leakage. Is this any car wash can do?
It is a Seat Leon 2008 diesel.0 -
Rather than coolant pipe I suspect this was the intercooler pipe that had popped off. I am guessing the much in the engine bay is a light misting of oil that often finds its way into the intake pipe work. For cleaning Google valeters who offer engine steam cleaning in your area.3
