     I can’t see “the defended didn’t see the signs & ticket machine” cutting it. 

    In which case say "the signs and ticket machines were obscured by trees, cars, double decker buses.  
    You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

    1.  It is not a fine.

    2. If you lose in court, you'd likely pay less than the claim.

    3.  Say whatever is true.  You must know why you didn't pay.

    4. I have literally no idea why on earth people drive into private car parks instead of parking on-street where you are safe from cameras and 'outrageous scams' (Hansard 2018).  Honestly, why why why do people seek out car parks to park their cars.  I am serious.   Unless you are in London, for goodness sake stop looking for car parks.

    Do absolutely nothing on the MCOL website after having filed an Acknowledgment of Service.

    You can, and indeed should, read the MCOL Claim History from time to time, until the case gets transferred to a hearing court.
