Overcharged by EasyJet for change of flight

We originally booked a flight (for 2) to Malta in August 2020 for £371.40. COVID-19 meant we had to change it (the flight wasn't cancelled, but Malta was in lockdown, so we decided not to go), so we changed the flight to Gran Canaria in January, paying an extra £64 between us (understandably, because it's a longer flight). We then went into lockdown just after Christmas, so decided we had to change the flight again, and thought we'd go to Amsterdam in September 2021. We easily changed the return flight, with no extra charge (because this flight was cheaper than the £435.40 we had already paid), however the outbound flight says it will cost an extra £38 per person. We checked this flight on the EasyJet website and it is only £68 per person to start with, so the fact that they want to charge us an extra £38 on top of what we've already paid for our flights (£217.70 each) is ridiculous! They claim you only have to pay more if the flight is more than the flight you're changing, but the new flight is £149.70 cheaper! We've been in contact with EasyJet and they don't seem to care at all. All we really want is for EasyJet to refund us the extra £38 per person that we had to pay.

But surely the £435.40 is the cost of both legs, not just the inbound one?  In other words, the comparison you need to make is whether both outbound and inbound legs for the latest booking total more than £435.40....

Yes you're right, bit of a typo there! We had already paid £217.70 each for each flight. But either way, the flights that we booked to Amsterdam were less than £100 each, so we had definitely paid for them (and then some!)
