Great stay in Liverpool despite ****** host nightmare

(I’ll start with the end of the story: we managed to stay in the spare room in someone’s house and had a really pleasant stay in Liverpool).
We recently needed to visit a very elderly relative for family reasons.
The ****** host, Hugo said he’d contact us with check in details & the exact address on the morning of our departure. He didn’t. I tried ringing throughout the day but with no success. At 3pm, almost at Liverpool, we rang ****** for help. They couldn’t get a reply from him either. They sent me lots of links to alternative places but the links didn’t want to open. Accessing their website on a phone travelling at 60-70mph isn’t easy.
In the end ****** refunded our money and gave us a voucher towards our next stay, but at one point we envisaged sleeping in the car.

would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

There's definitely no 'a' in 'definitely'.
