Printer Set-Up

Options
Hi
I have been having probs for a while with my printer.  The printer is in a shed in my garden.  Most of the time when I send a doc to print, I get an error messaging saying printer is offline.  It never is.  I would then switch printer off and restart, then it would print.   I've just changed internet providers.  And now, I can't get printer to print at all.

I have linked the printer to the router by pressing the WPS button.  However, when I send the document to the printer, I am still getting messages saying printer is offline (when it is switched on).    Does offline mean 'not connected to the internet'?    If so, perhaps the printer is too far away for the router - could this be a possibility?

Comments

  • Difficult  to comment as you are not saying what type of printer etc.  My printer has a light on it showing whether the wifi is being picked up by the printer. Does yours have the same light? If you have the light your printer is connected...then you could try to set up the printer again. My printer is HP and have icon on the desk top which helps manage the printing. Could be you have to down load a new version of the printer software on the PC.Sorry can not be more specific given the info.

  • Assuming Windows 10...

Go to Printers then click on yours and then click the Open Queue button to bring up the printer dialogue window. Open the Printer menu item then look for the entry labelled Use Printer Offline and make sure that's unticked.

I think I have found the problem.  The printer was still looking for the old internet provider.  I have put in the new details and saved.  Switched the printer off for 30 seconds, cleared all the waiting to print jobs, run a test page and now - it seems to be OK!

To be honest the printer doesn't know or even care who you're with internet wise.  I presume you've changed provider recently?  The printer was probably connected to the old router which is now disconnected/binned/propping a door open somewhere.
