Possible IPA assistance please

Options
Hi I wonder if anyone can help me please. I have had my bankruptcy app approved a couple of months ago and have my IPA interview soon.

I would like some advice please if possible.

I am the sole earner, my wife doesn't work, as is on a very high dose of anti depressants, and my son is 18 and is at college - full time. We don't claim benefits.

I also have 3 other step kids that don't live at home.
There are 3 of us in the household.
We have 2 cars.

I am paid weekly. When I started my job I had to work a month in hand prior to being paid. I work continental shifts so 4 on 4 off. Some weeks I get 600 and some I get 760 net.

Initially when I applied for bankruptcy the following was my SOA;
Net pay(at that time) £2340 month 530 week

Monthly:
Rent 455
TV 13
Gas 70
Water
Council tax 105
Electric 240
Meds 18
Car ins 152
Car tax 35
Mot and mtnce 64
Clothing and footwear 20
Haircuts 50
Phone tv Internet 83
Mobile 11
Laundry 60
Gifts 30
Smoking 20

Weekly:
Groceries 350
Toiletries 50
Meals at work 30

I have added my updated SOA and would like advice please if possible that would ensure an IPA isn't on the cards....if that is even possible in my case. Any feedback on the possibility of this would be greatly appreciated.

Forgive me if one or two of the figures may be off, I spent hours researching yesterday and viewing this fantastic forum.  Any help, advice or even criticism I'll gladly accept and appreciate.
In addition, I am trying to save for a new laminate flooring as the old one is cracked and split.  It's a vicious circle really as my wife has severe OCD and is constantly trying to clean it as best she can, and it's gotten to the point its a little dangerous to walk on in parts.  I'm sure the funding for this wouldn't be taken into account.

Thank you to anyone that offers assistance.
  • Someone else will come along with better help for your figures etc, but just wanted to say that I have OCD and when I was questioned on why some of my expenses are so high, I explained the practicalities of it all and it was accepted without further issue. They even understood that some of my "OCD expenses" have increased since covid. So explain your situation and they should be understanding about it.

Fantastic, thank you so much.  I'm not trying to milk the system, you see, I'm just looking for advice- having a family with depression and severe ocd can be quite a financial burden, to say the least. My wife tries to make a joke out of it but it has a dramatic effect. Our cleaning supplies weekly cost a huge amount. In fact more than I have revealed, but didn't put the actual cost of 'shopping' as I figured it would be rejected anyway, but thank you very much for your advice and support. It's greatly appreciated

How were the cars financed and whose name are they in?

Also groceries, you say 350 week but have only put 700 per month?

Apologies, my error.  Yes the food and primarily cleaning products bill approach 350 a week.

The cars were bought outright several years ago. Combined value of about 2k.  1 is mine, 1 Is my wife's.  I was made bankrupt about 2 months ago and had the ok from the OR that we were able to keep the cars.  The petition is in my name only btw.

Ok, if 350 a week then multiply by 52 and divide by 12 to get your monthly amount. That will then reduce your surplus.

I really appreciate your guidance.  So that's around 1500 per month for food, cleaning and toiletries.  It always seems excessive but its the lay of the land with my wife sadly. Cleaning products and a boatload of them come before food.

I shall also add contents insurance, thank you.

Might be worth starting to keep receipts, just in case it is challenged.
