Had an email from my has and electric supplier stating my bill is going up by £35 per month. This seems ridiculous? What should I do?

You need to worry about the unit rate increase rather than the monthly amount. Work out your annual consumption, get on a comparison site and switch if you can find a cheaper deal.

You should probably pay.  If you read your meters and scrutinise your bill you should be able to work out the reason for the increase.  The most likely reason is that a combination of lockdown and an unusually cold winter and spring has caused you to use more energy and your account to fall into arrears, so you Direct Debit has been increased to catch up.

Has your supplier recently had some meter reads and is now having to play catch up.

More details please -  what is your actual annual consumption ( in kWh not £) ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Use less and make sure all bills and meter readings are up to date so you can monitor it more closely

Your bill is going up or your DD is going up? The two are not the same...
Your DD may be going up just because you've been using more energy than predicted...
Your bill may be going up because you were on a variable tariff that has recently changed, or you were on a fixed tariff that has now expired...
A bit more detail would be helpful...
