O/S Daily Thursday 3 June 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy start to the day although still warm, looks like we've had some rain during the night but not much, forecast says could be some rain today.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work. I'm showered, dressed and I'm enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was fish, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had baked fish and veg. Tonight will be salad at DH's request.
Working today - on day off tomorrow then working Saturday morning.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.Yesterday my breakfast with Alan was lovely. It's so good to just sit, eat and chat. During breakfast I got a call from the funeral director to say that DM's ashes were ready to be collected. I found that more difficult than I expected, emotions just creep up unexpectedly to smack me in the face. More pleasant was picking up an order from a print shop of a card to send out to DM's friends. My afternoon was spent going through the huge stash of old Christmas cards I found, it was very useful as I came across more people to inform, you know those who are only in touch at Christmas. Then that was another bag to add to the to be shredded pile.Later in the evening one of DM's old students got in touch again to check how I was, the upshot is that he's coming through from Edinburgh on Saturday to give me a hand here. He's also promised wine! This morning I've got a hair cut first thing. Then I'll do a little light shopping and I've got a JL order to collect. I recorded the sewing bee last night so will watch that later.Happy Thursday to all.14

Morning All
I slept in this morning! I'm glad my walking pals are good friends the way I turned up this morning.
It's a bit showery this morning so glad I got the grass cut yesterday. The washing can stay inside, I'll put it out if it's still nice when I get home. Swimming was good last night, really enjoyed it. I've stopped asking my friend if she wants to come - she's always got something else on (or can't be bothered!).
Hugs to all in need, hope you all have a good day. Take care. XX13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A dull start here too but no evidence of overnight rain. That's a pity as everywhere is looking very dry. There's not much in the way of sun forecast for today, which is perhaps a bonus; as I might get on with the jobs that have been neglected in favour of sitting in the garden reading!
I had a lovely day out with my bus buddies yesterday. We decided on Ilkley, thinking Skipton might be busy, but that was busy also! We enjoyed it nevertheless, it was lovely just wandering around in the sunshine. browsing here and there. I treat myself to some spotty cropped pants and a not needed book jumped in my hands in a cs! In MIND I zoomed in on some anti mist wipes for glasses and they actually do work when the mask is on, so I was wishing I had bought more of them! We had a lovely lunch and shared all our news afterwards over a bottle of wine. A very pleasant afternoon was had by all. I dozed off in the middle of Sewing Bee later, just seeing the beginning and the end! So I will watch the middle bit later to see how they decided on the one leaving!
Today it will be the usual Thursday clean of the kitchen and bathroom and, now I have a bit more time, I will have another go at getting the handle back on the GTech base!
Have a good day one and all and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies and poorly loved ones. Take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Morning all.
Sad not to see the sun streaming through the windows this morning, but most of my day will be spent indoors so it won't make much difference.
Yesterday the mini-market wasn't so busy so we volunteers had time to chat, which was fun.
Today I'm back to trying to sort out my friend's flat. He has someone coming to assess the flat on Tuesday in case his wife is deemed well enough to come home. If the assessor had come before I started work on it, it would have been condemned.
In any case, I don't think that a first floor flat is suitable for a mid nineties couple, both of whom have mobility problems, but thankfully it's not my decision to make.
Gers, I'm so glad that people are rallying round to give you a hand. It's a lonely job if you have to do it all alone. You seem to be well organised.
Good luck with the GTech TA. It comes to something when you have to do a bit of engineering before you can start sweeping up crumbs! A bit of DIY-ing is possible, but annoying.
Right, will arm myself with bin bags, freshening spray and rubber gloves and go into battle.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
I'm sat on my back deck with a mug of lemon and ginger tea, listening to the bird song.
A boater from further along has just walked past with 5 of her 6 children, she was pushing sacktrucks on which was piled two full toilet cassettes, a bag of rubbish and two empty water containers. She'll be back in about an hour with empty toilet cassettes, full water containers a bag of shopping and without the rubbish. She does this every morning.Chin up, Titus out.12 -
Morning all very sunny and warm here DH woke me early to say the dog had been sick but he had dealt with it hopefully it was just the heat as i could do without it at the big house as it is all carpet and here is all hard flooring except the stairs .We are off to the big house tonight i really could just stay there and not come back but i need to finish packing up . I spoke to the EA and its looking like an August move just in time for the summer heat . Holiday was definatly cancelled yesterday and no rebooking our easyJet flight till after 30th August so refund on its way fingers crossed our safari to Kenya will go ahead in September but I am not holding my breath . DD2 is coming down for the weekend for a wedding dress fitting and we are off to the reception venue just for a refresh and to work out decorations for the October blessing. Right better get a shifty on as i want to wash the downstairs floors before it gets too hot and i have a nail appointment at 10 .
Gers sounds like you are getting on well with the things that need to be done and yes it does creep up on you sometimes and you need 10 minutes to yourself
Hugs to all our poorlies and those looking after them and all those who have worries take care stay safe and stay cool if you can xSlava Ukraini12 -
Good morning all. The sun's coming out here but I hope it doesn't reach yesterday's high of almost 30 degrees.
I have the first load of washing in the machine and DH is having his morning treat of a cuppa in bed and a few pages of his book. Talking of books we were out yesterday and stopped unexpectedly at a free mini Library nearby and I picked up a whole series of books by Jeffrey Archer called The Clifton Chronicles. I checked online so that I could read them in the correct order and will return them when finished. I might need to look out for the final one in a charity shop but that's not a problem.
We go away to North Norfolk on Saturday so the reading matter will come in handy. I've booked tickets for Sandringham on Sunday and I'm sure we'll fit in fish and chips on the coast somewhere. It's only a few nights but we're looking forward to it immensely.
Have a good day everyone.13 -
Gosh - I've just seen that I've managed to post under an ancient persona, instead of my usual Wicked Lady!
The site made me log in again, as it does periodically, so I'll have to look into that!12 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here another lovely day in store I think, wm is on and the washing will be hung out later. Got to take our pup to have her haircut this morning its long overdue and she is like a shaggy sheep she should feel much more comfortable afterwards.
Once home I shall have a tidy round and then a bit of lunch and then I have the shopping to collect back home and put it away and then out with the dogs hopefully this afternoon I can have a sit down for an hour.
I think its meatballs and pasta for dinner its a bit too hot for this really but they need eating so im sure we will manage.
Gers I completly understand that feeling it still comes over me about my brother its hard but hopefully time will help, im glad you enjoyed your breakfast xxx
Have good days all xx11 -
Hi everyone,
I'm sitting here in peace after a full on few days, Esben is becoming ever more active. Yesterday was mainly spent listening to the song Walking through the jungle on repeat and hissing, stomping, roaring and clapping along. He sings to himself a lot, any words he can't say yet (most of them), he replaces with the word bee but more often than not the tune is recognisable. They've now gone up to the Yorkshire house for the few days, luckily the cleaner reported that the guests who arrived on Saturday left the house in an immaculate condition. I shall be taking it easy this morning while Steve is golfing.
I too watched sewing bee last night. I think they are going to have a really hard job to pick the winner.12
