    Not sure where the requirement for driving license for VAT registration comes from.

    I was not asked to provide any ID verification when I signed up personally on the govt website. Was simple enough when you got passed the few strangely worded questions!

    The acct was asking for it to prove identity (as required by law).  It wasn't HMRC asking for it as part of VAT registration.
