Hi,
I recently had a Smets2 smart meter installed to replace a smets1 I was having problem with. I am apayg customer with SSE. I had no credit on the meter yet my supply was on. The meter kept racking up debt. I called them and they said my meter on their end was in credit meter mode hence the supply. He said this might be a fault and he would get someone out to it to change it. Only I topped up and the credit went on no problem. He said you won't be able to top up until it gets changed from credit mode to PAYG. My tracker says it's in PAYG mode. I don't understand this. Will I be able to get the missing credit refunded to me in a cheque or something because the amount is on my account it's £473.04. How can a smart meter be in two modes at the same time. I just want my money back. Thanks

They should be able to see the energy you have used and the payments you have made and then either refund the difference to you or make sure that the correct amount shows as your credit balance once the meter is set correctly to PAYG mode.

How have you ended up with £473.04 credit on a PAYG account? At some point, they are going to have to work out how much you really owe them for what you have used, because it sounds like it's not being taken from your account. Much of your money that appears to be in credit may then go to pay that bill.If you think they are mucking you about, or ignoring you, then it costs nothing to raise a formal complaint with them. It may make them start to take action. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
Hi Most of that credit was from warm home discounts. I don't use a lot of electric so it just kept being added through warm home discounts and for some strange reason they added £50 pounds don't no why didn't ask. I didn't need to top up myself hardly ever. Warm home discounts are about £140. I am not at home much. Anyway the new meter is working ok. SSE don't seam to have a good track record from reading reviews. It's working fine so I don't know what they meant by it was in credit meter mode obviously isn't. I just wondered if I could ask to have that credit refunded in a cheque as it was my entitlement. Thanks for the reply.0

The meter is topping up but the guy said as it's in credit mode I cannot top up so I tried it and it topped no problem. It included a debt of about 56p. Which the top up cleared. SSE don't seam to get what you say go them or reply to your emails. There is now no debt on it. They just do my head in as is the case with many other customers. They don't seam to solve anyone's queries.0
