I am with British gas and at the beginning of my contract I noted the calorific value of gas was 39.2. However my most recent bill shows it to be 39.3. I'm now wondering if I made a mistake or if the value has changed during the cause of my contract.
This is my gas calculation at the beginning of my contract
Meter (metric) units divided by kWh conversion factor 3.6 multiplied by calorific value 39.2 or 39.3 multiplied by Volume conversion factor 1.02264 equals Total Gas Converted Units...

The Calorific Value changes daily if not hourly - it is not fixed for your contract.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • For Natural Gas, the permitted CV range is 37.5 MJ/m3 to 43.0 MJ/m3.
All billing is done using the average CV for the billing period TRUNCATED to one decimal point; that is, an average of 37.75 would be billed as a CV of 37.7.

Remember, you are paying for kWhs and meters index in volume. The higher the CV the more kWs you will get from a given volume of gas.

The CV for billing is usually generated twice daily and averaged for the billed period.  For the month of May for my LDZ the daily values were between 39.2 and 40.3 and I expect to be  billed at the average of 39.9
