old one may be given to someone who wants to "learn how to use a computer".

Picking up on that point and the preference for a 1 stop shop for a new one.

I would use the old one as a learning exercise for yourself and the recipient.
    is needs the SSD treatment.

Great chance to grasp the basic of  installing an OS and the basic upgrade/repair of the easy swapped components.
Under those covers machines are pretty simple.

Graphics card, I assume this is an add on so any particular make? Just really to plug in a camera.

I'm a bit puzzled by the graphics card requirement - all PC's have a graphic processing unit (GPU) - low end ones are integrated into the CPU or Motherboard, high end come as separate expansion cards to plug into the PCIe expansion sockets.

When you say plug a camera in - what kind of camera? Video cards don't usually have a camera input unless you are talking about a specialist video capture card but I don't think you are because that is specialist stuff and you'd know exactly what you needed.

If you are talking about a webcam that plugs into the USB then a low-end integrated GPU will work perfectly, even at 4K - I'm running some 4K webcams at work in the conference rooms on a Dell i5 mini PC with Intel HD 630 integrated GPU's and they are plenty powerful enough - even with a 4K tv operating from them as well.

The first two pages of this thread will tell you what you will need to do to make the old HP PC fine for your needs , except perhaps the need to use a camera, what type of camera we don't know and I won't guess. Once the debate about spend at PCW etc kicked in you have must have gotten very confused. For probably less than £100 your old one will feel like new, however if you really want to pass it on to someone else then fine but £500 for a new one is more than adequate unless you need to use it for video editing / photo editing and then you would need to factor in the cost of a new monitor, although what you have already we don't know nor do we know why you want a DVD drive. The thread went off course and now is your chance to clarify things perhaps.
