postcode lottery limited - search on credit report

Evening
Could anybody give me an idea on why and how, without my permission that Peoples Lottery Limited have done an Identification generic check on my Experian credit file. I have not and dont plan on playing the postcode lottery, therefore dont know how a search has appeared on my report. I understand that it is a soft search, and doesn't impact my credit file, but surely they shouldn't be searching at all without my permission?
Thanks

Simply ask them the basis under which the search has been done.2

This has happened to my partner. We looked at his credit report boom postcode lottery has done a soft search. We call up to ask why because we have never contacted them or enquired about postcode lottery before. We called and they said that they bought data from the Read group. So...atm it looks like Data has been bought and then used to do a soft search with out permission. I suggest if you haven't already, you should call and get removed off of their files.christhesparky_2 said:Evening

Soft searches will disappear over time anyway, lenders don't see them but you could try and invoke the right to be forgotten, see if they can defend keeping your data0

They got back to us. They are going to remove it but what do they gain in doing a soft search on people that do not use/access their product/service?
Thank you for the information about soft searches disappearing.0 -
To see if you're a likely target for marketing.Nugget2022 said:They are going to remove it but what do they gain in doing a soft search on people that do not use/access their product/service?
No point in searching those who already do use the product.0 -
I don't see what they'd really gain out of an ID check though, they will still plough the usually unaddressed junk mail through your letterbox anyway.Deleted_User said:

Individual profiling doesn't apply to unaddressed mail where it's being done purely via demographics.
The searches are for targeted activity, where the costs are higher so you need to eliminate wastage and target effectively.0
